Description
August 26, 2006 was the date set for the National Socialist Movement (read: Nazis) to have a demonstration on the steps of the Wisconsin State Capitol. The capitol happens to be five blocks from where I live. Nazis at my doorstep? Not without a fight. A group of anarchists came down from Milwaukee to protest the presence, however by the end of the rally their protests turned towards the police instead of the Nazis. The standoff ended with multiple arrests as well as some injuries sustained by the anarchists trying to form a blockade against police in cars, on horses, and in riot gear.Anarchists dance and wave their black flags to the beat of their drums in front of the Capitol Building.

i hate nazis too, but i think anarchism would not be enough to contain the threat. I also have problems with corporate takeover communism. i love my country too much to let chaos happen. second, i wish we could end these foreign wars quickly and peacefully and then drive out every single commie and nazi out of our country and then send the remaining ones into prison. If not, then we execute every nazi and communist.

Really great moment.
It is kind of odd when folks like this tell you not to take their pictures. I mean, what group doesn't want to get their mission out to more people? Who doesn't want their beliefs posted for eternity on the internet? Isn't that kind of the point of having a rally to some degree?

These guys weren't part of the rally at all, they were there to cause trouble AT the rally. The Nazis were actually on the steps of the capitol, seen in the background. Only about forty or so Nazis were there but a good 3,000 or so protesters showed up. These were some of the protesters.

A *group* of anarchists? With a flag and symbol and unified message, organised against the establishment? Doesn't that completely undermine and invalidate the concept of anarchy?

They called themselves the "Milwaukee Anti-Racist Action" and their antics towards the end of the protest were pretty laughable. One of their friends got arrested and taken into the capitol, an action with an effect on the so-called "anarchists" on par with that of Kryptonite on Superman. They started banging on the windows and doors saying "Give us our friend back! It's not fair!" to no avail. Thinking that "smash the state" meant something other than whining and complaining about fairness was a silly assumption, no?
They DID provide me with some quality entertainment though.

I was under the steps taking pictures of them banging on the door. I thought for a bit they all were gonna get nerfed for doing that. Red-haired dude with the crazy colored handkerchief threw the kerchief on my lens and he's the one that yelled "NO PICTURES!"
I'll go back through and post those images, I've got some great ones of the busses leaving and that dude they took into the capitol being grabbed by the officers.
