I can't draw Frisk and not draw Chara, now, can I?Mostly practising with colours, and, my goodness, do I love how it came out! I stuck to the messy-shading style, but tried to do all the colouring in one layer this time- which proved to be much easier than I thought it'd be. It's also much faster and less confusing, as you have only one layer to pick colours from.
Anyway, about the actual picture: I like to believe that Chara is the first character you meet once you fall into the Underground, and that she's neither good nor evil; she's just there to help you with your first steps. She follows you around throughout your journey and observes your adventure, eventually changing her attitude to the better or worse. ...That, and I just wasn't in the mood to draw anything scary.
By the way, fun fact: Chara is an actual female name in Greek, and it means exactly what everyone's feeling during a Genocide run: happiness. Ha.

The drawing is lovely with the really soft coloring. Chara looks lovely here...
And I like how was the game made us not realizing of their presence at first (again, how many are the twists of the game?), while they took the important role, assist (and even guide) us during our long journey. Ahh... how touching... :'>

Honestly, as soon as I found out about the Chara Narrator theory, I instantly fell in love with it- it just makes so much sense and it's so creative that I couldn't help it. :'D
Although it does have its side effects. Now, whenever I see any kind of narration in any game, I just think that there's someone following the character and providing that narration.

O__O I didn't know that Chara was an actual name. And of Greek origin of all things. I thought it was just a joke, removing certain letters from the word "character" and that's that.

Actually, I think that's what Toby Fox was going for in the first place, and the word 'chara' just happened to mean a few things in other languages. You never know with that guy, though.

That's exactly how I saw Chara's role in the game, to be honest. And the picture looks great! The messy shading works well here, in my opinion.
Apparently, if I've gotten the information right, the name also means "friend" in Gaelic, and "punishment" in Russian.

I can see why- it's pretty interesting if you think of it that way. Sure, Chara was pretty... unstable when she was alive, but I like the idea of her not being evil at the beginning of the game. And thank you!

(I accidentally pressed the Back button and lost my whole comment! DX) If you really think about it, the background behind Chara is downright horrific. I mean, something pretty nasty must have happened to get them to hate humanity. Heck, it's even stated in the game, or at least heavily implied, that Chara tried to off themselves twice (and succeeded the second time.)
On a related note, have you seen Gaijin Goomba's Culture Shock videos on Undertale? They give a pretty interesting insight to the mythology behind the game.

(Oh, my goodness, I know how that feels. DX) Yup, you're definitely right about that. It does make you wonder what happened up on the surface, but that's really what makes this so interesting: it leaves everything up to interpretation. I guess the same goes with Gaster as well, and Sans... The game doesn't explain certain things as much as I would like. XP
I literally looked that up right after reading your comment (and this is why one should never do their homework with a computer next to them ), and I did find the videos pretty interesting. Maybe I'm just a sucker for mythology and folklore, but I think it'd be awesome if Undertale really was based on Irish legends.

(The agony!) Oh, yes, I'm still trying to tie together the pieces of Sans's and Papyrus's backstories, as well as the origin of good ol' Gaster. The most I can figure is that they (with the help of Gaster's followers and the possible help of Alphys) worked together on experiments and projects, such as building the Core and the study of Determination. It doesn't seem like Papyrus remembers- either that or he's just really good at hiding it.
That would be pretty cool. As of now, I'm working on my own list of Undertale headcanons. I'll probably post it here, in sections. Chances are it's going to change a lot.

That is an interesting theory. I have to admit, I haven't looked into their backstories much; I usually just settle with the information the game gives me, which is very little in this case. (By the way, have you watched The Game Theorists' video on Sans? It seemed pretty convincing to me.)

I did that at first, but there were just too many holes to be filled in. (Yes, I have. I don't know much about Earthbound, despite wanting to play it at some point, but it's an interesting theory. Did it convince me? Probably not, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.)
