Description Well, I have been thinking about female Nightfurys and I thought of this design! This is Seraleth, Toothless' mother. I used her as an example! I'll probably do more on female Nightfury's! For now, enjoy my idea! Night fury's usually stay with their male offspring until they are five years of age. Then the males usually fly off on their own and the females usually stay with the mother. The father almost always disappears after mating. Nightfurys do mate for life, but he takes no part in rearing. He will return when the dragonlings are three years old and mate with his mate once again! He will stay with her indefinitely when she can no longer produce offspring. They usually die hours apart from each other if it is from natural causes.

Toothless' father is nowhere to be seen and Seraleth wont take another mate, as they never have another mate. Plus, Nightfury's are super rare!!!!! XD I'll do more of her! I like her!

MORE INFO!!

Nightfurys usually stay in large family units consisting of the main mother and father, and the female offspring. Once the female offspring take a mate, they will fly off to create their own family group. Because Nightfurys ar nearly extinct, finding these family units is nearly impossible. Only one small unit of six dragons has been found in the past 100 years. Usually only males are found, bringing up the assumption that females are more illusive than their male counterparts. It is also believed that dragonlings born female may also be rare and that it is more common to have a male dragonling.

Young Nightfurys do not get their black(male) or dark grey/mottled(female) coloring until 4 years of age when they are sexually mature. Until then, they are usually a dark dull brown. The eggs look similar to a Stone Curlew's egg, but they are usually darker and much larger!

An unfertilized egg, or a rotting egg will have a black appearance to it. These eggs are immediately rejected by the mother in order to protect the living eggs. Unfertilized or dead eggs rot extremely quickly and while developing and in the first crucial months of life, young Nightfurys are extremely susceptible to disease. If a dragonling does die after hatching, the mother will usually eat the dead offspring, as the immunity of an adult Nightfury is unlike any other dragon's. The only exception is the slime of eels, which seems to be an effective poison against Nightfurys.
