Description dAmnColors - 0.7.1-stable.dAv7
This script is for Greasemonkey .

Update: dAmnColors now has an official Twitter (dAmnColors). Follow it for the latest news and updates.

This script was tested to work in Firefox and Netscape Navigator 9, it will probably work in a browser that allows JS injection that is not IE. Works with FF3 and the new JS engine.

The password reset script is here . Do NOT note me to reset your password, as the note will be silently ignored.

Original idea credit goes to ~ManjyomeThunder , preview image credit goes to !Kyogo , server funding and general uptime brought to you by @mackattack23 .

Watching me is suggested to get the latest dAmncolors updates. NEW: You can also follow dAmnColors' Twitter.

(The actual deviation is here.)

Features:
Intended as a replacement for the somewhat-annoying shadowdAx, this script colorizes your messages, and allows you to see other dAmnColors users' colors. The script is fully compatible with the latest Greasemonkey update.

Changelog:

Version 0.7.1 - 18 May 2010
  • Photofroggy's unofficial new wrapper script has been integrated into the official branch. Updated to work with v7. Less bugs now, hopefully.

Version 0.6.1 - 17 February 2009
  • Official announcement of the dAmnColors password reset script, available here . From this point forward, any notes regarding password resets will be silently ignored.

Version 0.6.1 - 24 September 2008
  • Not meriting another minor version increment, several odd "MySQL error" bugs were worked out, as a backend fault failed to pass on connect errors up through the abstraction layer, there was no actual content in the used variables. This has been fixed, and the underlying problem pinpointed to the MySQL server being overloaded with connections, a situation out of my immediate control.

Version 0.6 - 21 June 2008
  • The much awaited compatibility fix for FireFox 3 is out. Report any bugs encountered either by note or by comment.

Version 0.5 - 24 May 2008
  • Various backend changes related to reliability, speed, and CPU usage.
  • Fixed various complaints about bugs related to data submission errors.
  • Tenative password reset feature in the wors that uses dA passwords to validate with dA server.

Version 0.4 - 09 April 2008
  • Updated to work with dAmn 0.9. If you installed before 0.9, you MUST reinstall.

Version 0.3 - 23 January 2008
  • The script is now compatible with the latest Greasemonkey update.

Version 0.2b - 15 January 2008
  • Server change, the actual number of users was affecting #iRPG, which is hosted on the same server.

Version 0.2b - 12 January 2008
  • Fixed the problem where people were not getting prompts, for those who were affected, uninstall the userscript, then re-install.

Version 0.1b - 10 January 2008
  • Changed code to allow for minimal to no refreshing needed.

Version 0.1a - Initial release
  • Semi-friendly series of prompts to create a new user and change colors.

  • Automatic refreshing of color list from the database, with caching to reduce bandwidth usage.

  • Greasemonkey script commands to manually refresh the color list and change your colors.

How to use:
Simply install in your GreaseMonkey, then reload a dAmn window to start using. After following the prompts, you can change your color at any time by right-clicking on the monkey icon in your Firefox browser bar, mousing over "User script commands", then clicking on "change user color". All colors are in hex format (#RRGGBB).

Right now registration is done through the userscript, however if abuse is suspected, registration will have to be down via bot in a chatroom.

Suggestions? Comments? Please do tell.

To Install:
To install this, you need Greasemonkey.

How do I reset the password? Apparently I had one, but I don't remember setting it up. It tells me to reset the password if I can't remember it, but I don't know how. Help please?

If you read the artist comments up there you'd know how. Read the Version 0.6.1 info from Feb of '09.

Do you know the hex colors for the normal DA chatroom posts? I wanted to change the color of my Bot's name, not mine, and now I can't undo it. xP

I love this! But I do have a couple of complaints...

I don't mean to sound picky or rude but whenever I go into the chat, it prompts me to enter my password. I click the cancel button and type in my password and then it says refresh. It shades out my User Script Commands though so I have to refresh the page and retype my password. However, even after that I have unassign my colors and the redo them just for it to show for me. Apparently everyone else can still see my colors but even when I refresh my colors list without changing any settings, it shows up black for me.

I was wondering if this was just a problem for me and I need to find out what is wrong or if this happens alot.

Sorry to say it's quite troublesome but I love having colors in dAmn chat and I'm hoping there's a way to fix this x_X

You have to downgrade as the script hasn't been updated for the newer version of greasmonkey.

try downgrading to FF 3.5.8 or lower [link] and downgrading greasemonkey to sept 26, 2009 [link]

I've managed to fix the issue with me and 3 other people regarding the bugs with the new FF/GM.

Yes. the new version of Firefox isn't working with this. It's doing the log in every time you get on dAmn and then refresh to see colors, and log in again thing.. The never-ending log in cycle!

I would LOVE if you could find a way to fix it for the newest version of Firefox!

DRGNCAT In reply to laura-beth467 [2010-03-17 13:18:23 +0000 UTC]

there is no fix for the newest version of FF

the combo is FF 3.5.8 or lower and greasemonkey from sept 26, 2009.

DRGNCAT In reply to laura-beth467 [2010-03-17 23:23:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, its up to Nol to do it, will probably be a while.

nuckchorris0 In reply to DRGNCAT [2010-04-07 03:26:29 +0000 UTC]

Why is it up to Nol? Unless the problem is on his server, anyone with some knowledge of Javascript can fix it. Hell, I could probably fix it if I weren't already occupied writing 2 scripts for deviantART.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DRGNCAT In reply to nuckchorris0 [2010-04-07 12:06:46 +0000 UTC]

I'm not at all familiar with javascript, my guess is it is the script that needs some updating as to how it gets the data, because something has changed.

What really should happen is that this script needs to be handed over to someone else, as now those that want to use the script have to fall back on FF 3.5.8 and GM from sept 26 09 Which I don't mind, but they have updates for a reason

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nuckchorris0 In reply to DRGNCAT [2010-04-08 08:31:16 +0000 UTC]

Nah, probably just some minor bug - Firefox doesn't change that much in 0.1 versions.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DRGNCAT In reply to nuckchorris0 [2010-04-08 11:31:20 +0000 UTC]

xD
Then explain why the issue goes away when one downgrades back to an early version of GM. I don't think its an error with FF, it's that the version of GM you want isn't compatible with FF 3.6

Pretty sure its all Greasmonkey's fault.

This happened last year in late September when the Feb version was replaced by the Sept one. The issue there was that the script wouldn't even talk to the server so colors did work at all. Had to wait 2-3 months for Nol to do whatever magic it was and it finally got back.
But now there is at least 4 versions that came after and I'm sure one of them fucked with how the script is supposed to function.

Any chance of getting rid of the color brightness limits plz since there are some who use dark skins, etc?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DRGNCAT In reply to Darknessdragon92 [2010-02-17 14:03:20 +0000 UTC]

have to think about that the majority of the people on dAmn don't have any scripts and maybe 20% of those with skins have a dark background. If we were allowed to use white or bright pink, people with the default skin wouldn't be able to do anything about not reading our text.

I've been getting the problem of the password prompt appearing each time I enter dAmn (which it seems quite a few people have been having the same problem).

I'm using 'Fox 3.6 and GM 0.8.4 if it helps you any.

OK...I'm starting to get seriously mad

Ok so it prompts me to put in my password EVERY time I go into a chat. (1)

This is what I have to do every single time I go into a chat room...
(FYI the numbers=Screens, as I'm sure you figured...)

I'm prompted to put in my password and I do (1) & (2) , and then the arrow to change my color and what not is grayed out, so I can't change my colors; my default being black (3) . So I refresh the chat, it prompts me to put in my password again (4) & (5) then the arrow is now available (6) . Then I have to put in a code other than the one I normally use because if I put in the one I normally use it says that is already my colors (but as I said before, it shows my colors as black)(7) . After I do all of this it finally works, but if I refresh or close the chat, I have to redo it all.

I have done this with: the latest GreaseMonkey+Mozilla and GreaseMonkey 0.8.3+Mozilla 3.5.1 AND the latest GreaseMonkey+Mozilla 3.5.1 and had the same exact problem with all...

Please PLEASE someone help. Otherwise I guess I'm just going to continue this monotonous way of getting my colors to work... I'm going to note all of this also because I know I'm not the only one with this problem.
Thank you in advance

...if it's something simple I'm seriously going to kill a small animal vv'

Yeah this took a long time...but I wanted to make sure there was no confusion :/

Your problem is EXACTLY the crap I've been dealing with. And good luck getting any response out of this guy as he seems to me MIA. I don't care what issues people have seemed to have had with ShadowdAx at least there was never any color issues and there was never any need for entering passwords to chat. And NOW, damncolors isn't even loading.

Go figure.
