Description
dAmnColors - 0.7.1-stable.dAv7This script is for Greasemonkey .
Update: dAmnColors now has an official Twitter (dAmnColors). Follow it for the latest news and updates.
This script was tested to work in Firefox and Netscape Navigator 9, it will probably work in a browser that allows JS injection that is not IE. Works with FF3 and the new JS engine.
The password reset script is here . Do NOT note me to reset your password, as the note will be silently ignored.
Original idea credit goes to ~ManjyomeThunder , preview image credit goes to !Kyogo , server funding and general uptime brought to you by @mackattack23 .
Watching me is suggested to get the latest dAmncolors updates. NEW: You can also follow dAmnColors' Twitter.
(The actual deviation is here.)
Features:
Intended as a replacement for the somewhat-annoying shadowdAx, this script colorizes your messages, and allows you to see other dAmnColors users' colors. The script is fully compatible with the latest Greasemonkey update.
Changelog:
Version 0.7.1 - 18 May 2010
- Photofroggy's unofficial new wrapper script has been integrated into the official branch. Updated to work with v7. Less bugs now, hopefully.
Version 0.6.1 - 17 February 2009
- Official announcement of the dAmnColors password reset script, available here . From this point forward, any notes regarding password resets will be silently ignored.
Version 0.6.1 - 24 September 2008
- Not meriting another minor version increment, several odd "MySQL error" bugs were worked out, as a backend fault failed to pass on connect errors up through the abstraction layer, there was no actual content in the used variables. This has been fixed, and the underlying problem pinpointed to the MySQL server being overloaded with connections, a situation out of my immediate control.
Version 0.6 - 21 June 2008
- The much awaited compatibility fix for FireFox 3 is out. Report any bugs encountered either by note or by comment.
Version 0.5 - 24 May 2008
- Various backend changes related to reliability, speed, and CPU usage.
- Fixed various complaints about bugs related to data submission errors.
- Tenative password reset feature in the wors that uses dA passwords to validate with dA server.
Version 0.4 - 09 April 2008
- Updated to work with dAmn 0.9. If you installed before 0.9, you MUST reinstall.
Version 0.3 - 23 January 2008
- The script is now compatible with the latest Greasemonkey update.
Version 0.2b - 15 January 2008
- Server change, the actual number of users was affecting #iRPG, which is hosted on the same server.
Version 0.2b - 12 January 2008
- Fixed the problem where people were not getting prompts, for those who were affected, uninstall the userscript, then re-install.
Version 0.1b - 10 January 2008
- Changed code to allow for minimal to no refreshing needed.
Version 0.1a - Initial release
- Semi-friendly series of prompts to create a new user and change colors.
- Automatic refreshing of color list from the database, with caching to reduce bandwidth usage.
- Greasemonkey script commands to manually refresh the color list and change your colors.
How to use:
Simply install in your GreaseMonkey, then reload a dAmn window to start using. After following the prompts, you can change your color at any time by right-clicking on the monkey icon in your Firefox browser bar, mousing over "User script commands", then clicking on "change user color". All colors are in hex format (#RRGGBB).
Right now registration is done through the userscript, however if abuse is suspected, registration will have to be down via bot in a chatroom.
Suggestions? Comments? Please do tell.
To Install:
To install this, you need Greasemonkey.

i really don't like hating on anything or anyone, but it's kinda hard not too when nothing is being done to correct this problem.
And technically it IS a problem with colors since GM is just being updated like any other program or script.

I get a warning that reads:
You have logged in correctly. Refresh to display your own colors. WARNING: If you change your colors without refreshing, and leave some fields blank, it will reset to black.
However, everyone else can see my colors and then sometimes they don't. While I cannot see them at all.

When is the issue with the colors body document null gonna be fixed? It's been almost 2 months now since that tweet about the issues and nobody's heard anything about a fix for it from my understanding.

a simple refresh should fix it. I've had that error lots of times, but its just to refresh the page.

Nope. I've even refreshed firefox like a million times and it won't work at all! Besides that, check the Twitter update that was last left on the site, there's a link in the artist comments.

From what I can read, Greasemonkey is not likeing the new firefox, so I guess its just a waiting game till the comments on the addon page start to show positive effects

It does still work a little, but not like it used to. Plus, you should check out their twitter, they said that they'd be working on the problem over the next few weeks, But that was almost 3 months ago.

Yeah I know. I'm just trying to hint people in the right direction as most of the issues with this script are part of a waterfall effect with Firefox. If Firefox updates, Greasemonkey has to update, which usually means scripts that rely on certain features like the ability to talk to a servers, will have issues and need to update along with.
Yes, Nol is a busy person and I too have had to endure the pain of not having dAmn colors for months at a time, but its just to investigate yourself or to speak up and say something more specific to him.

I've noted him in the past. But I think he gets enough notes about the issues as it is. I think its out of his hands atm as to the compatibility issue with greasemonkey and firefox.
Could always downgrade to other versions and see if that works.

I still see no reason for the whole server/password thing. It causes more problems than it's worth. People complain about ShadowdAx yet I never had any problems with its colors. It's just completely ridiculous after you've already logged in to dA to have to yet again enter a password to to see some friggin colors in a chatroom.
Redundant much?

Nimphious In reply to Aneyolf [2010-02-03 04:46:21 +0000 UTC]
It's because changing the username that the script can see is easy, and would enable anyone to change their username to your own and change your settings without your permission.

Aneyolf In reply to Nimphious [2010-02-03 22:10:56 +0000 UTC]
I still see no reason for it. ShadowdAx never required it. All you did to set and/or change colors was to type in the input field "/cmd setcol #hexcode #hexcode" then hit "Enter" and you were set... permanently. Without having any need to right click the monkey, selecting color settings or refreshing colors, or entering passwords or having to reset your colors every time you enter the rooms.
The only reason I switched to this is because SuperdAmn doesn't have anything for colors. Otherwise I'd happily ditch this script. ShadowdAx may not have been perfect, but it was certainly a lot less hassle than this one is. And before anyone says anything, yes I do appreciate the work, time and effort that people put into this things, I just think it could be done a bit more easily. If I knew how, I'd do my own.

It is a bug that you have to reenter the password. Normally you only enter the password /once/ ever, as long as its the same computer/browser and the same username.
I want to say I maybe used shadowdAx for about 2 weeks before someone told me to replace it with dAx (a good 2 years ago). I don't think I ever used the colors feature, but seeing as dAmn colors is pretty much flawless (except the delays on updateing things), I see no point in downgrading to a older script.
You need the monkey in order to have the ability to save it on a server so that everyone else can see it. I agree there is some annoying features, but at least it exists. I honestly would quit dAmn if this script was removed.

I believe the server is down as well, which could be the issue; you're color requests seem to go in, but there is no server to catch them

Ok, I don't mean to be whoring out my journals or anything, but I did find fixes to make your own colors visible permanently, and have colors stop prompting you to give the password.
If you cannot see your colors, or are prompted to give a password every time you get on dAmn, go here and there are directions on how to get these issues fixed: [link] I'm so proud of myself!

I want to say the issue is fixed and that with most people they are just behind on updateing GS. Two versions came out on the same day and its likly people managed to get the "Version 0.8.20091129.3" and not the "Version 0.8.20091209.4". I know this script always fails when GS has a new update, its just no telling what is next on the list to die for this version.

Click link -> 'dA outgoing link page'
Click THAT link -> 'loading' for about 10 minutes (waiting for the site to send something) then times out.
Any ideas?

It really should work with the latest FF (3.5.7) and the latest Greasemonkey (0.8.20091209.4). Are you certain you have those versions?
It should only reask if your switching usernames. What other scripts do you have running? I don't believe this script needs to be in a special order.

Hey there, sorry to bother. I installed this yesterday and it's been working fine for me, but ever time I refresh/enter the chat, my colours go back to black after I log in to damncolours. I wait for a while but they still don't appear, even when I refresh the colour list, the text is still black. When I go to input the colours I had, it says that I have those colours currently on, but I can't see them nor can anyone else see anything but black. If I change the colour codes slightly, then it works and I can put my original colours back in, but it's getting to be a pain to enter in my colours every single time I log in. What should I do?
