Description For some reason, I think Lord Voldemort would wear pricey outfits and accesories with more than a little dignity.
And Dior, I don't know why, but I always imagined him as kind of girly; probably because of the name Mr Tolkien gave him. That, and wearing his mum's necklace around his neck. Not the one in the pic, I was too lazy to attempt to draw the splendid NauglamΓr with the silmaril in it. Hope you guys like anyway. o_-

A bit of clarification for those infamiliar with Tolkienverse ('cause everyone knows Voldemort... right? ) -
Dior is a half-elven king (okay, elf really, but mom= elf, dad= man) of a woodland realm. He's from The Silmarillion. See his mom in the previous comic, and his dad in the one with Huan and Trelawney. And yes, Dior is his real name. I don't think Mr Tolkien consciously based the name on the much more famous fashion label.

And, for those not too familiar with the world of fashion - Voldemort is wearing a Louis Vuitton bag. No reason other than that I liked the identical initials of these two.

Also, the deviation title is from The Order of the Phoenix book, slightly modified. Not mine.

Okay, this is the last part of Tolkienverse Meets Potterverse for now. In less than 14 days, I'll be decorating cookies, which means some more serious chocolate on dough art.

Sorry for the late comment, but this is brilliant! Voldemort would be able to wear that with dignity, and Dior is....

Thanks! I thought you'd probably like this one, being a fan of fashion. And yeah, Dior is kind of silly in this picture. I just can't see him serious with a name like that... at least not at the present.

(Another late reply...)

Welcome! Yes, I liked it a lot. Fashion, HP, and Tolkien...three of my favorite things in one picture. (Dior is a very silly name for an elf. )

Omg, they both look as if they just have been on shopping spree in mall Seems that they also visitied in Starbucks on the way. Voldemort and Dior (haven't heard about this guy to be honest) - the new creators of their world's fashion?

Glad you are going to decorate cookes soon. Me too

Thanks! Yeah, I drew these with the stereotypical celeb photos in mind - you know, the "coffee in one hand, cell phone in the other, big sunglasses" ones. Cell phones felt a bit over the top for me though.

Good luck on your cookies! We're starting to bake this weekend, so I'd better pick a Silm character already.

Wait, what, you haven't heard about Dior the designer, or Dior the son of LΓΊthien?

Hehe. I envy their fashion instincts. The careless flick of Voldemort's left hand is the best part.
Good luck with the dough art!!

Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the hand best. I took some care with them, but they're quite a pain to draw.

Bahaha fantastic. XP I'm glad that I'm not the only one for whom "Dior the Beautiful" raised a few eyebrows, and the sunglasses are hilarious. And while I don't generally picture Voldy as the designer handbag type, I don't really care because I'm laughing too hard.

I'm glad you appreciated the designer sunglasses for Dior; I wasn't sure if I made the label on them visible enough.

Soo good! I'm particularly fond of that bag on Voldemort... he seems quite content to have it, too! Cookie-decorating season has already arrived for me, but the first set have all been eaten Looking forward to see your dough Feanorians, or what else you'll feel like creating!

Oooooh...So THAT'S why Nimloth fell for Dior. He just walked past her humming : "I'm too sexy".

Right said Dior!! "I'm too sexy for the Nauglamir...". Poor Nimloth stood no chance.

Dior has a rather Michael Jacksonish aura about him .... too precious .... and I have to admit the name does conjure up certain, er, ideas about his personality and attire.

Yikes, I was afraid of that! Definitely not intentional; I just wanted to give him a silly smile.

Gwenniel [2011-11-23 09:41:39 +0000 UTC]

I don't... Honestly, I had never seen this coming.
But yeah, Dior's name... an unfortunate coincidence. Tolkien should be careful with names even when they are backed up by the fact that they are "elvish"... *cough*Elmo*cough*Teleporno*cough*
Still, this is a very funny pic. I hadn't though of Voldemort as being into fashion (Dior on the other hand is quite probably -like so many elves (Finrod, Celebrimbor and Thingol come into my mind) - interested in jewels and pretty outfits), but this is cool.

Oh, Cookie-season starting? Are you planning to continue on the Noldor-cookies series?

noleme In reply to Gwenniel [2011-11-23 11:36:10 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Dior's name is funny, but I must admit I still prefer it to 'Aussir the Wealthy' or whatever. That one sounds kind of snobby to me for an Elf; I wouldn't have a problem with a Dwarf-king named that, but if I were a Feanorean and some young kinglet from a forest started calling himself Wealthy while showing off my silmaril... Well, I'd be right there with the Celegorm, Caranthir and Curufin.

Yes, hopefully. I'm thinking maybe a Feanorian or two.

Oh so true. To self-proclaim oneself as wealthy is very arrogant. I suppose the only good reason to be named that is if the citizens really coin the name by themselves.

Oh, this one is so funny! I had the same thoughts about Dior! As for Voldie, hmmm...LV is a pretty mainstream muggle brand. I see him going a bit more out there--something with lots of studs and hardware!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

noleme In reply to Gryffgirl [2011-11-23 09:13:31 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I myself would put Voldemort either in the category "don't care about my appearance, I can intimidate in any outfit", or in the "classy pureblood look." I chose to go with the latter. Now Greyback, I can well see in studs and metal-band clothes! Or Bella.

As a side note - wow, where are you from that LV is mainstream for you? 'Cause here, it's superexpensive.

LV... I never thought on that... Although I did think about Dior.
However, I don't see Voldy this way at all. I somewhat agree about Dior, and it's hilarious to see Voldy with this expression (priceless!!!) and clothes, but I just don't see him like that.

Have fun with cookies decorations - it'll be great to see your designs here, too.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked! Ah, Dior gets so many jokes from fans on the account of his name... poor guy.
You mean that you don't see LV as the type of person to wear pricey outfits, or the way I drew his appearance?

I don't see Voldemort as a fashion guy, but I love the way you drew him, his expression is priceless.

Poor Dior... Well, I guess he was pretty. That's what happens when your grandmother is an angle (of second order XD), your mother is the most beautiful female that had walked upon Earth EVER, and your father got her hand in marriage after bringing a Silmaril (and losing a hand on the way). *shakes head*

Oh great, now I can't unsee Dior as a grown-up child moviestar.

Yeah, I'm kind of taking revenge on the Leithian characters in this series, aren't I? They do look a bit silly in my comics, except for Huan that is.
Ooh, noone will ever guess who is a Feanorean fan here... I'm so sneaky about my preferences and non-preferences. LOL.
