Description UPDATE! I updated this picture to include my two newest swords, the Dragon Katana and Sakabatou! And yes, that's a pool cue holder that I'm using to hold my larger swords. It works well enough... though I have to make something to hold the four smaller swords.

I got the Dragon Katana from a friend of mine (Naruan-kun!) and the Sakabatou I bought myself. All wonderful swords... and the two "real" Katanas are damn sharp. My bro and I each have thumb cuts from where we tried to gauge the sharpnesses. Yeah, we're foolish.

Enjoy!

Fweehehehehehe! I loves it. The sakabatou has a cloth carrying bag, too, so I can carry it around without people knowing what it is... until I untie the top and let the cloth fall... *evil grin*

My parents are freaked out, though. They don't think I should have any sharp Katanas until I'm 18... and so far, both of my "real" Katanas are damn sharp. Ah well...

It's only a few months till you're eighteen, though. Wouldn't make a difference now or later. xD

Also, you could hurt someone just as easily with a kitchen knife. o_O

True, but then again, I don't carry kitchen knives around the house with me. XD

...Wait wait wait. In Japan they call European-style broadswords "BASTARD swords?!" Dude! That's harsh, especially considering that there aren't a whole lot of swords out there with as many functions as a broadswords (wood axe, decapitating implement/razor, cutlery, mirror, life raft, parachute and means of transportation, just to name a few [note I did not add "sword"]).

Um... bastard swords are bastard swords... not just in Japan, man. o.o;

Say, come to think of it, is there any sword that's just called a sword? As in, "Say there, Joel. That's a pretty nice non-type-specific sword you have there!"

Oooooh... Aaaaaaaah-- I mean, Ahhhhhh....

(Or maybe you have to reverse those.)

(Oke, forget the whole thing.)

Anyway, aside from that floorboard sword (I don't have a clue what catagory that falls under) do you only collect Asian swords? As poorly as that's phrased, I guess I just want to know if I can use swords as an excuse to drag you to the Shakespeare festival next year (wishful thinking) or if you want a souvenier when I go (... As though I can afford it).

Erm. Don't mind me. I just feel chatty. Seriously though, there're VERY nice swords sold there..

*shuts up*

Thanks for the compliments!

That sword at the top was a gift, I didn't go out and get it.

So yes, I am a collector of Asian weaponry. If they've got Katanas, I'm there.

Oh, and the floorboard one falls into the category "European Swords."

I think it's Maple, dunno.

I doubt it. Maple isn't that color (unless they dyed it) and it's actualy a softer wood. not sutable for whacking people with.

Even though you told me that nobody in the world would make a reverse-blade sword?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nomake-Wan In reply to TweekDragon [2004-08-13 22:49:15 +0000 UTC]

That's right. I thought that because everyone thought that. Everywhere I turned, everybody said that there wasn't a swordsmith in the world that would make a reverse-bladed Katana because they have no point (no pun intended).

...but then again, everyone said that Card Captor Sakura Movie 2 would never come to the US. And I own it on DVD.

I found it accidentally on the website of the store at AX that I bought the redwood Tanto and Red Oak Shoto from. I was amazed that it existed.

So I'm getting it. It's perfectly real, combat-ready, and is only $186.

So the moral of the story is, "Tweek is always right."

Don't say something doesn't exist unless you can prove it. And that's damn near impossible.

hmm...my boss taught me a little swordplay, a form normally used with machetes. but I could use those shoto's well for it ^^ as he put it, I will become "a windmill of death".

I hear that there is quite a style involving Shoto. It's referred to as "Kodachi Nitou Ryuu," which means "Twin Short Sword Style."

I have some of its techniques on paper, but I don't practice with two swords all that often, so I'm no good at it.

That thing you learned sounds like "Kaiten Kenbu Rokuen," which translates to "Six-Circle Spinning Sword Dance." No, I don't know why it's called that, and yes, I could be wrong about the translation. But I doubt it. I could bring the Shoto to your house and you could show me what your... "employer" taught you. Hahahaha...

lol, well, what he showed me was of African origin, and it has a name like "escrime" (which is actually kind of interesting becaus "l'escrime" is French for fencing) and prounounced eh-scream. It would be awesome if you could bring the two shotos ^_^

Alrighty, I shall! I'll also bring that page of twin-sword stuff, just to see if you recognize any of it (or can do any of it).
