her parents gave her a bit of a fancy mouthful of a name, and when she was little it was hard for her and her classmates to pronounce, so she decided to go by dawn at a young age

i feel like twilight wouldn’t be a bad mom, but would insist her child does SO MUCH academic shit, ap classes, study groups, private lessons, the works, and tempest (also not a bad mom, meaning the best) would be like “hey, as down time from all that work, how about you do a sport” and then dawn was stressed 25/8 as a kid/teen. but at least she could take out her stress aggression during sports and was an absolute beast. eventually she was like hey fuck off and slowed down on academics, but she still appreciated the relief of sports and genuinely had fun, and so when tempest suggested joining the royal guard program dawn was like sure why not.

her parents live in ponyville in the castle, but dawn moved to canterlot to continue her training in the royal guards. she’s in the same program as nimbus and the two are good friends in and outside of training, and dawn loves to read old stories and myths to nimbus.

dawn hated all the school work she was forced to do but wasn’t turned off reading surprisingly, and still enjoys it, her favorite subject being history.
