Definitely a different angle on the story. Seeing how the wizard was supposed to be a mechanical genius, it's surprising that he didn't try this idea.

Why would he reveal himself? Isn't the idea that he's trying to be all intimidating, but Dorothy happens to find his secret?
I understand you've created a parallel story, but one must consider character motivations.
