------

The Ancestral-class Protected Cruiser is the GCN's answer to the changing landscape of Naval Warfare within the Commonwealth of Liberty. With a never ending cycle of Advancement in Super/Hyper-sonic ASM countered by advancement in AA Missile, a doctrine change showcased a shift towards Armored Warships for close range brawling with enemy vessels - in the hope of turning the missile slinging fest that had become war on the high seas, to a gun fight. This doctrine capitalized upon the fact that no Navy within the Commonwealth of Liberty possessed commited armored warships outside of the Brazilian Battlecruisers, Paramerican Battleships, and the sole French Battleship serving as flagship of its Imperial Navy.

The Protected Cruiser was the cornerstone of an attempt to counter the new perceived naval dominance of the Indian Navy in the Indo-Asiatic region whose arsenal of Hypersonic BraMos III missiles turned their fleet into a world-class fighting force feared by the COL's superpowers.
