Admittedly there's more reason that usual to be talking about the four nations, and I have to say the show's been on my mind as well. Last month I was at the local fan convention there was a big display for the new Netflix live action Avatar, and they day after I had bought my ticket, there was going to be a live premiere of the show, with all the new principal cast attending.

Well folks let me tell you, I was just about so excited to hear that I didn't go. Instead I'll be at another convention the next town over this Saturday who were lucky to get the cast from the cartoon. So I made this print for some of them to sign.

Jokes about the second failed Live action remake aside. It's difficult to find a new way to say how good the original Avatar: The Last Airbender is in a way that's never been said before. The best I can say is that what really made the show so special was that it really excelled at almost everything. Yes there'd be a duller episode here or there and not everything's perfect, but it's rare to see a series of any medium so dedicated to detail. Characters, magic system, world building, animation, most shows are lucky to get one of those right, but Avatar managed to get them all in way I really have never seen replicated. Like the films of the Disney renaissance it was lightning in a bottle, and it's something we're never going to recapture. The only way to get that kind of magic again is to innovate and keep telling new stories.
