I started practicing with backgrounds for the first time last December; these were from last January. I know these aren't comparable to to professional work, but I had no previous experience with environment painting, so bear with me. I plan to pratice more and I hope this gallery will show some progress.
A couple of these were the starting point for two of those few better looking backgrounds I uploaded earlier.
Criticism always welcome!

So much potential in each scene. You could imagine a dozen stories unfolding in each environment.

Love these! You really have a way with knowing at what points to emphasize and tone down detail. They remind me a lot of environments (even the concept artwork itself) from the Metroid games. And if you haven't played those games already, I think you'd really like them. 8D

Aww, I'm glad you think so! I can't stand these sketches anymore, but I'm currently working on backgrounds again and I'm noticing some improvement - I hope you'll like the new stuff as well!
I have never played Metroid, but I'll check it out 
And don't mention it! I'm only just starting to REALLY take a look around - when I worked on BFOI and ER I was so anxious and frustrated I needed to get those things done to feel a little better... so I simply avoided contact with any other part of DA. I was watching pretty much only those I had to collaborate with. I'm sorry it took so long D: It was never a matter of indifference

Haha, no worries, I understand! I also know how it can be to just be so busy that anxiety consumes you, and work becomes the primary focus (even though work is always a good thing, and don't ever let DA make you think you should stop focusing on it haha!). I also hope I didn't make you feel pressured into reciprocating the follow, I just like to interact with artists I genuinely like, both artwise and personality-wise. x)
And yep, definitely like your new stuff!

Yep, I had to since it was all about ice lands and underwater stuff D: I'm really craving some warm and earthy colors!
(Aaaand I wasn't skilled enough to add warm tones in that kind of environment successfully XD I'm going to try again this week and hope for the best!)
