Some nights it's like the heart and the phone work in tandem.The flashing screen and the ring tone seem to be the only link to reality.
And when all is silent, it hurts. Even if you try to deceive yourself.

I think this perfectly describes how I felt when my husband was in Afghanistan for six months and all we had was the phone. I would even listen to old voice mail that he left for me just to hear his voice.
