Description
..A little bit of Norey's art in your waya little bit of glossing on his scales
and I really hope you like it, boys n gals!
Haha oh me and this song I dunno how did I come up with that
ANYWAYS this is my take at a cute dragon sculpture! Did with Fimo (coloured modelling clay), pupils are painted on and gloss was added after baking. I know that he is not perfect but I am super happy with how he came out!
All props to DragonsAndBeasties for being an amazing source of how-to and inspiration!
Just look at this, gawd I made this ages ago^^Β noreydragon.deviantart.com/artβ¦

Amazingly beautiful piece.^^ Toothless is the awesomest dragon out there and I love him to bits.
I've always wanted to try modeling with oven-able clay, but it's so expensive here.>.<

Thank you so much! So nice of you to say
well it ain't cheap here, either. For a pack of 10 colours and only few grammes per colour I paid 11 euros (about 14 dollars..?) and the polish costs quite a lot as well. But it's worth it

We don't have packs that have multiple colors in it. They sell it by small squares and it costs about 6 dollars per square.D:
I sculpt out of regular molding clay though. But once I'm able to buy the oven-bake ones, I can tell it'll be totally worth it.

yessss these squares are so expensive! I found the multiple-colours pack in a normal books-and-pens store (it wasn't even an art store) and it was being sold as a starter pack for kids, thus not too expensive :3
I have been using a lot of this heavy white air drying clay as well. It works really great for bigger sculptures since it's cheap but it tends to break a lot and has an uneven surface, so I like Fimo much more for smaller colorful things

The only ones I could find are at hobby shops and they're priced really high.D: I wanted a glittery type of red clay for a fox I planned to make but because I also needed white and black, it became too expensive and I couldn't buy them. Now I have to prove to my parents that I'm taking my studies seriously before they'll get me more stuff for art.>.<
How long does it take to dry? If it's by air, won't you need to be quick to sculpt?o:
If it breaks easily, then I agree in using something else for smaller projects. The effect would be better.^^

aaaahhh that sucks! I am actually earning a bit of money myself now (I am doing an internship) so I am happy to be able to afford all the stuff I want :'D I hope one day I can actually make some more money with commissions and stuff and buye VEEN MORE ART SUPPLIES
The air drying clay only costs about 5 euros per 500 grammes and that really is A LOT. I recommend always building a core of styrofoam, aluminium foil or wood (and wire, lots of wire), that speeds up the drying and makes your sculpture more stable and more light. The surface is usually dry after 1-2 hours, and it's full dry after 10 hours or so. The important thing is not to keep it too warm (over a radiotor or in the sun) otherwise it might crack

Lucky! There's no place for me to get an internship where I am and I also have to concentrate on my studies. I want to keep my grades up, so no sidetracking for me.
There's a lot of stuff I want, but I have to make sure I prioritize what I really want and buy it before the others.XD It would be awesome to get better art supplies though. Like recently, I just got a new tablet and I feel like it's much, much better than my old one - a definite step higher. I actually think it'll help my art look better.^^
Hm... That sounds pretty okay. Although I don't know when I can ask to buy some clay considering that I'm saving right now. But when I get the chance, I might buy some to try it.c:

I sent out internship applications to at least 20-30 different locations all over Germany and England hehe Only got 1 though, and had to move about 400 kilometres away for it, which is a bit lonely. But fortunately there's dA and skype and such^^
Yes I'd just say try it, get the cheapest one or something and afterwards you can still decide if you like it or not^^ And new tablets are always good!

Wow! That's really a lot! I'd do the same, but of course, gotta concentrate on my studies for now.XD Maybe when I have more spare time, that's when I'll decide on an internship somewhere.
Yep! Being able to contact friends/family over the internet is a lifesaver~
I'll ask permission the next time I go to the mall.^^ Then I can finally make some sculptures of characters/animals. Question though, where do you get the varnish for your figures?

YESSSS DO IT GO FOR IT GURLLL Sculpting is really fun, maybe you could already sketch some ideas of what you want to do, that usually just pumps me up before I do the actual sculpting
First I had some kind of translucent coating for acrylic pictures and such that worked nice but it left really ugly stains on the figurines when dry. I tried to mix it with water which didn't really help so I just thought screw it and bought the expensive varnish from Fimo itslef (in an art store) and even though it is really overpriced for that tiny bottle, it looks fabulous when dry. I'll surely go looking for alternatives once I've used up that bottle ^^

I think I'll sketch some poses for red foxes and maybe my OCs.^^ I can't wait. But I have to until I get less homework and when I have more free time.D:
I've always liked sculpting though.c: I've tried it with molding clay multiple times before. Though when I tried heating in in the oven, it nearly melted and I freaked out.XD Now I just keep my sculpture inside a plastic container to protect it.((:
I used to have a bottle of varnish hanging around but it probably dried up by now.XD It was just the kind that came with those kiddie magnet-making sets though, so it was incredibly tiny. But I have to admit, it had a nice, shiny finish on the magnets though.^^
I guess I'll go check out my local art stores soon for any type of varnish and clay blocks. But I have to make sure they're good quality but cheap enough~
