This is wonderful!! I think the black paper was a perfect choice--it just emphasizes the darkness of the character! The mood is positively malevolent: his expression, the wild hair...the blood-splatter across the bottom of the frame... More than a perfect likeness, you've captured perfectly the bloodthirsty character of Sweeney Todd (and honestly, in this makeup, it didn't look much like the Johnny Depp we all know and love anyway! lol!)--very well done!

Thank you very much! I was just wondering is likeness the most important thing in drawing, or is it the whole feeling? Sometimes when I catch the feeling I will somehow lost a little likeness...

"is likeness the most important thing in drawing, or is it the whole feeling?"
For me it's a bit of both--but more the feeling and sense of the character that must shine through; I've seen a lot of portraits of Padme, for example, that "miss" in the likeness, but capture the emotion, and those still seem like beautiful portraits for me. If a likeness is close, but not exact, and the character shines through--then it still hits the mark as far as I'm concerned! Do I have you thoroughly confused now...? As long as it's recognizable (and believe me, no one would mistake this portrait for anyone else but Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd, lol!), and the mood comes across, then you've done the job well--and here, that's more than evident!

Very nice colour pencil work! I like the hues you splashed in the picture - the fact that you didn't restrict yourself to one hue per object/part makes the picture more alive somehow.

Thank you very much! I like to present the feeling of a picture, sometimes it's more important than likeness or accurateness...but of course, likeness is a good thing too.

Not only do I love his hair, but I really love how you made the blood look like it has been splattered on a piece of glass closer to the viewer. Awesome!

I agree. Sweeney Todd is on my Top 10 movie list of all time. Of course with Johnny D. and Tim Burton, you can't really go wrong. ^.^
I admire your ability with coloured pencil. It's something I still struggle with. :/
bien fait!

I think the likeness is there, but to me that doesn't matter as the color is wonderful.
