The only sound was the brushing of paws against the snow, soft and heavy as they marched forward. I could not help but feel very light, as if the beast pushed the wind towards me, moving it through my body effortlessly.

It walked up to me and stopped a few steps away. Smoke pooled around its nostrils as we both breathed the cold air quietly, its head lowered. A mahogany cloth embroidered with gold was set around its eyes, and the blanket it wore bared a stretched sun. Slowly it raised its head, dark orbs locked with mine. I could not help but shake as I stared down at it, and its gaze forced me to realize that this was not a dream. My own soul was reflected in those eyes, years of pain and suffering that I had thought were only exclusive to me had been secretly shared with another. This creature had faced the same isolation and rituals as I had, all for this journey.

My shaky hand reached out from the warm confines of my cloak and hovered above its head, slowly. The bear blinked quietly, eyes still pouring into mine. With new confidence in a sense of safety and identity, I rested my hand on its head.
