Roisin blinked.

She hadn't been worried about straying off the beaten path through Eterna Forest in an effort to save time and reach the city before sundown. She hadn't been convinced when Skye had warned her that the abandoned house buried deep within the woods was actually haunted. And when her gaze had met that of the Froslass emerging from the doorway as she walked past, she hadn't been intimidated in the slightest.

Maybe she should have been. As the last echoes of the vicious explosion of energy faded, the last splinters ricocheted off her back, and the last wisps of icy fog dissolved into thin air like the frigid spirit itself, the Staraptor slowly turned her head, chancing a glance at where the attack had struck the tree behind her.

She felt a coldness in the air wrapping around her, the same as when she had first entered the grounds of the chateau.

There was no tree.

With the air around her growing colder by the moment, Roisin resumed her trek, striding through the dense undergrowth with a quickened pace. Perhaps, by the time she made it out of the forest, there would still be a few minutes of sunlight left.
