Flora, Florea, at somewhere dark.

Ruby walked down a dark alley in a murky night, looking for someone. When she saw what she thought were the tips of the strands of her lost friend’s black hair going around a corner, she changed her pace. Yet each of her steps felt hefty and sluggish, as if she was being dragged back.

“Jenny!” Ruby said, her hand open and stretched out as if to relieve her of the wicked sensation of the inability to run.

“Don’t go!” She said after having walked a meter, a long felt one.

The corner where her friend had turned seemed to get further away as she got nearer. Ruby felt her lungs close in completely as she fell to a stony road soaked with rain that’d just poured in. When looking up, she saw her friend now walking toward a bright moon that was at the very end of the alley. And so, she took that one chance to yell out one last thing.

“JENNY! It’s—”

But her voice disappeared, and her body failed. No longer could she get up, and not much vocals to say anything else.

She tried to make sound of her lips but to no avail, and each shout she made was a mute wave in the air pleading to be heard, its words stronger than its haste.

Her brunette friend turned to look over, and when Ruby saw her expression, tears blustered up from below her eyelids then ran down to the slope of her chin.

Jenny … I’m so … sorry.
