If you came to scream how wonderful naruto is let me start off with saving you the trouble, because I don't care how wonderful naruto is, and how HORRIBLY WRONG I AM.Every day that I visit DA I happily type in the site and click enter, and every. single. day. there is ALWAYS something naruto related in popular, there is always a naruto related fanart coming into the newest submissions at a ridiculously fast pace. Naruto has become so stupidly overpopular and overdone I can hardly sift through all the other anime and fanart to where the real art lies.
Fanart is something I know will never go away, and it isn't the worst thing in the world (when it isn't 90% of someone's gallery) but at one point I have head-desked so many times I have lost most of my frontal lobes.
Just once I wish I could come on looking through art without a sea of naruto fanart, it is done SO MUCH, TOO MUCH, and it will NEVER CEASE. It rushes into deviantart like a broken sewer pipe. MAny times I see sub-par or shoddy naruto art, but it gets huge praise and appreciation because it is naruto. Obviously there is something lacking in this art community when all the real attention is given to art because it is fanart of an extremely overpopular and over-rated anime. It is sad to say there is nothing you can do to stop it, where there is an obsessive community of kids there are throngs of people that will put things on a pedestal wether it deserves it or not.
With all the beautiful things in the world and the excess of naruto "art" on this site you would think all the observant "Artists" would begin capturing the real beauty into an art form rather than re-doing the same exhausted idea over and over and over again.
I am, at the moment, not really saying anything against the show naruto itself. I am not a fan but everyone can enjoy what they like, I am only going on about the horrible flood of naruto fanart that drowning out all else. Tis sad.

I am a Naruto fan, but not a fanbrat so I found this hilarious.
I can easily see why people think it's overrated or why people wouldn't like it, so it couldn't really be any easier for me to accept the fact not everyone likes it. No one likes absolutely everything, so there's bound to be someone who doesn't like/hates Naruto for every person that likes/loves it.

I feel like fanart of popular things is okay...in moderation.
But much like naruto when you start seeing the most popular deviations of the day or the newest deviations section popping up with the same series over and over...it gets crazy

I like the show itself, but I DON'T like the fact that most of the fanart of it is pretty poorly done. Alot of it is simply screencaps, which is NOT art in any form!

I agree with the statement...Naruto is overrated and honestly...I don't give a flying fuck about the damned thing anymore. I only look at Naruto stuff, because I look at it in the art aspect, nothing more.
It's sad most have to do fan art just to get attention, I only do my own stuff. I only do 'fanart' when requested.

Also, fanart isn't all that bad. Some of it can be good. Just because at least 80% of fanart is Naruto related doesn't mean the rest is bad.

I have to say that disliking something because it is popular isn't a very good reason.
I dislike naruto because it is one of those ridiculously long drawn out action profit animes with predictable characters/dramatics. And the main character who becomes SO UBER AMAZING with OVER 9000 POWER OH GAWD.
...and other things. I shall admit it's popularity sort of multiplies my dislike of it because I have to see it everywhere.
As I have said before I don't think fanart is the worst thing in the world. I just dislike when someone's entire "drawing style" is whatever that fanart is and their gallery is like 90% fanart. A good example is sonic, where people's entire art style is now sonic and somehow it is "their style".

I personally am not a fan of Naruto the Series, I prefer Naruto shippuuden, but you're right there is a LOT of fanart, I wish Inuyasha was popular again T-T then I could find better reference for certain pics I drawn, Original art is awesome too ^-^ just harder to find reference pics when learning

I would love to see a day when all the "popular deviations" were original pieces.
Then again with the new layout I don't really have to pay attention to the popular pieces of the day unless I go out of my way to look for that page. I am grateful for this.

I just saw your picture and I wanted to share my opinion - not about 'Naruto' (it's true there's too many stuff about it), but about the fanart.
I think you have been too hard by saying "[fanart] isn't the worst thing in the world (when it isn't 90% of someone's gallery)". I mean, fanart can be art too. Some of us use it to show a character, a situation or anything that happened in the story in a different way, or to make stand out something the original autor didn't. Maybe it is not the most original thing on the world, but it can be original.
Besides, no one can be 100% original; there's always somethig that influences you... Am I wrong, 'NotAMudkip'? Or are you the original author of "Pokemon"? Fanart is a way to show likes and dislikes the same way your username and your avatar.

I thought I was making my point of "some fanart is artistic, but not really when someone only does fanart or only replicates someone else's style for 50+ pictures".
Fanart...can't be original. It isn't bad that it isn't, many people can learn how to draw things by replicating another person's stuff for a short while. But you can never cover up fanart by calling it original, if it is not your character or your "world" that you are inserting characters into, it cannot be "original". But originality is so vague these days, what can I say. I don't hate fanart, but I hate when someone relies soley on it, and sometimes it is the only choice they can make to get recognized on this site, where fanart is praised far more than original things.

I actually agree with you, and because of Naruto's popularity, I have grown to hate the franchise. I tried opening my mind and exposed myself and couldn't get into it. I don't understand what is the big deal about it.
DA is being suffocated by Naruto, and several artist who I knew who once drew other art are now writing horrible Naruto fics, and making ungodly interolerable Naruto OCs.
Personally, I wish the Naruto franchise would die.

I can't say popularity is a good reason to hate something, but it DOES garner negative feelings from me when it doesn't really "deserve" to be popular. Not to mention popular anime = huge obnoxious fanbase.
Your story of artists turning to naruto fanfics and "original characters" (because making a character from an exisiting story is really original lolol) saddens me deeply. That is exactly what I am talking about.

I mean I hate Naruto for what it is, it's characters suffer from Elitism; look at them-- for example, the Uchiha and Hyuuga familes are basically very elitist families who think they are better than everyone else because of some genetic advantage over other characters. All the characters who are born powerful are usually elitist, cold, emotionless and just stupid... While the minor characters are tossed from left to right and are looked down upon for their lack of genetic advantages.
The manga and anime of Naruto just screams out elitism. Characters are born powerful, and they rule the villages at their whim...
I've seen both Naruto versions, manga and anime and I hated it. But then again, the anime industry is at a downfall altogether...
Give me Sailor Moon, DBZ and Gundam Wing anyday...
But Naruto is just stupid.... and the craze is out of control to the point where you want to grab a Naruto fan and strangle the life out of them (for me at least).
And yes, the small story of artist who I watch becoming full fledged Naruto artist is sad. I know one artist who made her Naruto characters gained INSTANT POPULARITY and is having other artist MIMIC HER STYLE and they are merging their fanfics together, making one big fan-canon based on Naruto.

Well characters being elitist can be a good part of a story... sometimes.
I express how bland, fake and forced everyone's personalities became after a short while. The stories inspire no emotion despite how much they overexaggerate it, and parts of the "story" that could have been done in 15 minutes get stretched on forever and ever, so much so that it feels like you are wasting your time watching it.
But my bigger concern lies with the INSTANT POPULARITY one gains after turning to doing only fanart. I can't even express into words how dissapointed that makes me. It is why I really appreciate the artists that stick to doing real art and doing only insanely popular things for the favs and watches and views.

I simply refuse to draw Naruto art-- even if a talented artist offers me a drawing of my own Alien vs Predator characters just for drawing their Naruto OCs... I won't do it; it's against my principals. Why draw something I have a huge hatred towards to the point of even hating the manga author for simply creating it?
Such a thing would be hallow and meaningless-- when I draw, it's to help create what I visualize in my mind, not for popularity.
But seriously, Naruto flooding DA is just overwhelming that I actually SCOLDED a few Naruto artist for simply getting into it...
....But I just learned to tune it out...
