Description
I WANTED TO ANIMATE SOMETHING SIMPLE FOR A WHILE. JUST A SKETCH THING. I really want to animate things, I just don't feel I'm talented enough to or patient enough. Drawing is HARD. I was talking to Mae49 , and they mentioned changing their anime-ish style to something more cartoon-y so they had more freedom with expression. That sort of stuck with me ?? Because whenever I'm drawing faces, I'm usually concerned about proportions and what not, and I've been trying to break out of that since it really restricts me. I'm not a realistic artist, and I doubt I ever will be. (I was absolutely miserable in the time where I attempted to be semi-realistic).
I was watching Noragami (WHICH WAS REALLY GREAT), I usually sort of study the way things were drawn as I watch. Yato is RIDICULOUSLY expressive and I absolutely adore him. I really enjoyed the way it was drawn. (I actually stopped watching anime for a while because I was so struck with how much work was put into it, that I felt like I could never get to that level and it discouraged me.)
SO I GOT INSPIRED AAAND. HERE'S A QUICK DOODLE OF CAM. Which happens to be my least expressive OC. He's expressive in his own way. These expressions would only be seen if he was talking to Neo who he's basically in love with. e >e Whenever he's overwhelmed by emotion, (basically being told 'I love you') he can't really express joy besides sort of flustered crying ? It only lasts about a second and then he pretends it didn't happen. He's short tempered and reactive, but he's got an image he likes to keep. He rarely smiles. He talks fast, would have a pretty deep voice, but he's quiet and basically monotone. He's expressive through his eye and body language, mainly.
ALSO IT GETS JUMPY AT THE END BC I JUST REUSED SOME FRAMES TO MAKE IT LESS JUMPY WHEN IT LOOPS. 2 lazy --

Nice , I was really into animation once but eventually gave up on it slowly( other than text, object animation and other stuff but I'm pretty much done with anything past 50-100 frames for now) as my drawing quality improved because I got too impatient, if you can bear with the patience it takes to create an animation then the results are amazing but otherwise having to draw hundreds of frames even a thousand or so frames for a minute+ worth or animation can be a huge pain ( although both stuff like onion skin to redraw and copy and paste/duplicating frames for specific things are immensely helpful) . I love drawing but animation is like drawing something 1000+ times and with the case of multiple animation it's thousands upon thousands.
out of animation curiosity how many frames were used? it's been a long time since I've animated

OOOOH YOU WERE IN ANIMATION ??? THAT'S SO COOL.Β
I cannot imagine bbeing able to do it ??? where do people find this patience ??? I really want to, i would love to see my characters come to life, but it's SO MUCH WORK. YOU ACTUALLY DID 50-100 FRAMES ???? THAT'S WOW.Β
For this ?? I think about 30 frames. I drew his head about 6 times ?? and his eyes around, I think 26 times AT LEAST ?? I didn't copy paste too much for his eyes. I tried to make it really quick. Not much presketching. IT WAS A LOT OF FUN THOUGHΒ

yeah, it was pretty fun.
XD when you really get into it then a decent or average animation starts becoming 600 - 1000 but I started quiting animation when my characters started getting limbs, quality wise with drawings/characters I never really got to being close to what would be qualified as chibi even so I find your animation pretty cool. characters are the hardest to animate in my opinion.
ahh I was guessing around 50 at first, its been years since I've even touched animating software. copy and paste can be good for some things and bad for others it takes a bit of playing around to find what you like using it for and what doesn't turn out so well with it. I'd say if you have the inspiration and motivation or the ability to fight past the impatience then "full steam ahead!" or go for it, animation is lots of fun and from my experience it gave me new techniques and ideas for my drawings. I'd imagine even small things such as chibi animations would be a breeze for you compared to this. it appears like you've gotten some good animation basics in already so I'm assuming you've animated for either quite some time or a long while.

Actually ? Besides basic animations, I haven't really animated anything that requires as much redrawing as this. If you have any tips, I'd appreciate them. I draw in SAI, and then I move everything into PS and turn layers off for each frame. pretty tedious. I WOULD LOVE TO DO MORE ANIMATIONS. I just struggle with the patience and just getting ideas in the first place. Drawing this alone took me a good 2 or 3 days of "what expressions should I do that won't require too much redrawing" ??? It wasn't as hard as I expected, though.

yeah, hmm tips well when I was into animation I'd usually draw three to six frames( six frames around average but the amount of frames that should be used depends on the frames per second/fps you kind of have to go based on how the animation looks and what you're going for ) for every tiny segment( for example: a tear drop or other liquid droping out of the screen/boundary or from top to bottom) if that helps any for things like fading, shape changing ect. as for pixel issues and making lines perfect I've seen people go back over thrings like drawing and fix up stray pixels, shapes, ect with eraser which is kind of both an drawing and animation thing. if you plan on using sound in animation it would probably work better to get the sound in first then animate to the sound rather than forcing the sound onto the animation, theres also using thin lines vs thick lines (and the in between) which make many differences in animation and copy and pasted frames vs redrawn frames also makes alot of differences ( they give animations a different overall look ) theres many different ways to do almost any single animation or animation techinque ( ex you can do a fade/disspearse effect just by changing opacity down about 20% each frame or you could do it by erasing 20% or however much you feel like of each frame and then you can also do both at once and all three choices will look different), I did small scale animations on a ds screen so from my experience every segment of a drawing even a single pixel matters ( a good example for how even a single pixel of movement changes an animation would be copy and pasting an frame with even a small /simple object over several times 8-12 might work fine then moving an object in the second frame one pixel towards a direction then moving the second frame two pixels towards the same direction the third frame three pixel towards that direction and so on then making a clone animation but with intervals/movements of 5 pixels per frame and comparing the difference it makes ( just using a single circle or line would make a good enough example) there's a lot of cool things possible with pixel nudging like that.)
ahh transfering from one to another program , yikes! I don't know much about photoshop animation if anything but using/lowering frames opacity might work as an onion skin for animation/redrawing refference. I'm not anywhere near being expert of anything more like amateur/begginer-ish (with around 2-3 or four years of experience it's basically around as long as the flipnote hatena website has been around/up for minus some time because it was up for a while before I got on/into flipnote) also in animation practically everything is a tool including color (intead of color being only used to color things like in drawing stuff like color changing in animation open up many many many different effects so on top of transfering anything from drawing to animation theres all the new things opened up) . it might not be much but I tried with the tips
that's pretty much the same problems I had with the patience and brainstorming "what to do next?" trying to find or having inspiration and motivation help lots with brainstorming and getting back to work on a animation that ends up becoming post poned due to procrastination/impatience I think the support of others is what kept me animating for so long though but certain periods of breaks are good from time to time. ahhhh , I'm glad to hear that it wasn't difficult as you expected , as someone who's made animations before I find it awesome that I can sympathize with the problems and being amazed at the results of animation. ;w; seeing someone pick up things like this is really cool.

AND YEAH. I USE PS CC. I draw in SAI, every frame on different layers, save as .PSD, and make the animation by hiding dif layers for frames.Β

Gooosh so cute >w <
I can just imagine to well how much work animating is . . .Β like seriously it amazes me every single time when Iwatch anime as I am always to much aware of this being a frame by frame thing and all has to be drawn and redrawn and coloured and idk . . .Β thinking about how all that stuff maybe even happens within a week I feel so incompetent for not even managingΒ a normal unanimated art . . . . . *sighs*
But well it is pretty amazing though. And gooosh seing him cry is sad . . .Β *gets tissues and gives them to cam*
