Description The girl stirred as she began to awake. Her mind was foggy, and her body ached all over. As her senses cleared from her slumber, she overheard several voices. Not wanting to grab their attention, she kept her head down and her eyes closed, listening to their conversation.

"I heard some of the handlers say that she put on the collar herself!" A high-pitched, yet soothing, feminine voice addressed the group, receiving gasps and grunts from her unbelieving companions. "Do you think it's true?"

"Maybe she was the one who came her earlier with that bastard Zookeeper! While you were all sleeping, you know." This voice was deeper and more aggressive, but still belonged to a girl. "Maybe she's a spy for the damn Zookeeper! We should just off her while we have the chance!"

"Settle down, Puma." This voice was closer than the last, a smooth, male voice. "You're being too hasty. Lion, tell us what else you heard from the handlers."

The high-pitched voice sounded more uneasy now, as if the rest was just rumor. "They said... she took the collar without any preparation. None of the medication that prevents memory loss."

"So that would mean, and correct me if I'm wrong," Another female voice, the most distant of all the voices so far. "She'll wake up with no memory of anything at all." A second voice, a man's, equally as distant, joined her in unison. "Stupid girl."

"Now, now, Jaguars." The smooth voice from before spoke again. "It's rude to speak ill of someone when they are within earshot."

"Who cares, Panther. The damned girl is asleep!" The aggressive girl from before had a definite tone of anger in her voice, likely directed at the one called Panther.

"Is she now?" He said, sarcastically.

The girl could feel all eyes on her, which signaled that they all knew she had been awake and listening. She sat up, looking around to get a grasp of her surroundings. There were dishes on the ground, likely for food and water. The ground was grassy, and she had been asleep on a soft pile of dried grass. In front of her was a series of bars; behind her was a door, likely sealed tight. To her left, a man sat in a similar cage, covered in dark black fur. Yellow eyes pierced through the dim lighting. She figured this one was Panther. To her right must have been the one named Lion, a girl covered similarly in light brown fur.

"Directly across the way is Puma, and the two across from Lion are called the Jaguars. Welcome to the Big Cats." Panther stood up, moving toward her until he reached the bars separating them. "Tell me, can you remember anything from before you woke up?"

The girl closed her eyes, focusing her mind, but it was blank. She shook her head, burying her face in her hands.

"I see, then it's just as Lion says." Panther returned to his own bed of grass, raising his hand to his chin, as if in deep thought. "You seem familiar, though."

"Girl!" The male Jaguar called out. "You know, you're not the only one with memory loss. You think my real name is Jaguar? I don't know what it is, but it's certainly not that."

"The handlers stripped us of everything, except for the bad things we had done to deserve being locked in here." Lion spoke, sadness nearly overcoming her.

"Not even them. It's that bastard Zookeeper!" Puma pounded against the bars of her cage.

The girl lifted her head for a moment, enough to meet the eyes of the man to her left. As she wondered what he was thinking, he answered. "When the time comes, we'll kill him. We'll free ourselves from this life."

It had grown late. The two Jaguars began bickering over something petty, their voices growing quiet and out of earshot. Panther and Puma were engaged in a fierce argument. Lion, something of an airhead, kept asking questions of the girl to get to know her, but she was unable to answer a single one, not remembering what the answers were supposed to be.

"Oh, well, what should we call you then? Puma, what does her cage say?" Lion asked.

"Tiger." Puma said, as she fell back into her own bed. "Bet she'll be fucking pretty too."

They all fell asleep not long after. Panther whispered something before letting silence finally invade the night. "In two days, you'll be allowed to leave your cage. At that time, will you go with me to see someone?"
