..singed at the edges, tiny green hearts consumed by flame, still beating..--didn't turn out quite how I wanted, - it hurts to look at, and the colours aren't quite so brilliant as in real life, but...

It must be possible, but only in situations in which the photographer doesn't like his/her work and rejects it. This is not the same in your case.

Nah, there are many instances where artist goes "huh. I'm not sure why, but I feel that I must share this" and they marvel in the feeling of having purpose, and purr in the pleasure of having inspired and revived someone else, although they know not how or why

You discribe the feelings of artist. This does not mean that I could ever feel as you do about YOUR photo. The artist almost always loves his/her work more then everyone else. I have yet for anyone to love my work as I do. Can you honestly say that you've had someone fully appreciate you work to the same extent you do?
