Description This is a special person in my life. His favorite color is green. His favorite sport is soccer, and his favorite music is found on the Guitar Hero games. Like a lot of kids, he goes to school, and his favorite subject is reading. He loves swimming, computer games, and eating. He likes to dress up as Spider Man for Halloween, and wishes he could be Spider Man in real life. He has his own likes, dislikes, talents, and quirks. He breathes air, his heart beats, his mind thinks, and he has feelings. Oh yeah, by the way, he has autism, but really he’s just another human like you and me, and loves to be treated as one.

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away." - Henry David Thoreau

Faves, features, comments, and watches are always welcome and extremely appreciated. Thank you for any support in advance (although I will try to thank you personally, sometimes life gets in the way)! If you use this picture, please send a link!

Update: To answer a frequent question I'm seeing: Yes, I am sharing with him his feedback, and no, he didn't technically write the text himself, but he did to the best of his ability, so he deserves the credit. In my opinion, yes he wrote it and deserves the credit because he did his very best and that's all anyone can do.

Wonderful and what a sweetie! my eldest son was diagonised as being on the lower end of the autistic spectrum when he was 7. He is now 14, happy and doing well at school. Bullying was one of the biggest problems we've had to deal with. As parents we've tried to teach him his autism is just part of what makes him unique.

I really love the meaning of this!
Youre right! Every human deserves the same chances! But it seems that many people forgot this and many are still forgetting. Why is that?
I dont know! But I know one thing: We are all the same: humans in this world. Everyone deserves the same: a good future.
Hang on and try your best! I hope people will understand at one day.
Good Luck and a happy future

This picture is interesting to me. From what I've experienced, being autistic makes me worth less than the rest of society. From what people tell me, it's a disease pandemic and that I should kill myself so that I don't go breeding it into society. I haven't managed yet, obviously, but the last thing I want to be is alive if I'm worth that little.
It's confusing to me to think that I'm still worth as much as everyone else even though I have HFA. I mean, if I was worth something, people wouldn't tell me I'm the worst sort of person and that my mother should have aborted me, right? If I was worth something, my dad wouldn't have turned... cold toward me... after he learned of my diagnosis.

No matter what mental issues a person has, everyone deserves to live a whole, healthy life. I personally have aspergers and a couple of other issues that make it difficult for me to go about what neurotypical people call a normal day. (neurotypical = people without mental disorders).

If you want to chat, my inbox is always open.

I know what neurotypical means, I'm not stup- oh wait. Well, I know what it means, anyway. ...and I guess maybe a healthy life. Maybe. I don't know.

Earthen-Arts In reply to KuchikiYorume [2015-07-30 11:51:52 +0000 UTC]

i wrote the meaning out more for people who do not know what it meant, or maybe would take it as an insult. either way, you are quite normal to me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KuchikiYorume In reply to Earthen-Arts [2015-07-31 01:22:19 +0000 UTC]

I am NOT normal. Just cause I seem normal doesn't mean I am. I'm on the autism spectrum. That is not normal. Please do not call me normal.

...I'm sorry. Just being called normal kind of... hurts. It brings up bad memories. People invalidate my suffering because I seem "normal" and don't believe my diagnosis. Β They don't believe I REALLY have any problems and am just being lazy or avoidant.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Earthen-Arts In reply to KuchikiYorume [2015-07-31 02:09:44 +0000 UTC]

I am sorry... sometimes i try to say things i mean and it comes out all screwy...

I have aspergers, ADHD, PTSD, Anxiety problems and depression. i also suspect an avoidant personality disorder, but it is difficult to pin down personality disorders while i am at my age. so i do knowwhat it's like to be not normal.

i guess what i meant to say by "you seem normal to me" is that i am using myself as a measure for normality (or my normal), not most other people. forgive me if i lead you to believe otherwise.... but i do not mean to offend in anyway, shape or form. for the longest time, my parents thought i was nothing but a lazy bum... and it was only a couple months ago when i received the diagnosis. i am 24 years of age.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KuchikiYorume In reply to Earthen-Arts [2015-07-31 03:31:29 +0000 UTC]

I see... well, being normal is not something I want, because being normal means there's nothing that stands out about me and that I'll just vanish into a crowd and be looked over and average and invisible.

dont worry dude, i dont have what you have and I get told the same thing. Ive been told these things for half my life and have been single for 5 years.
I'm still a warrior though and I have my respect. i know I shouldnt kill myself
and am worth more than sex.

youre worth a lot. the way I see it. life IS a gift and when you recieve gifts do you throw them away? no, you keep them and cherish them regardless of if you really like it or not. Its a present, so you have to live in the now, let go of the past but learn from it so you can feel hope for the future.

my life is hell, but I still do what i do, Yeah I cry but i wear the tears pridefully and still smile honestly and big.

You gotta be strong, people who say shit like that are ignorant and afraid.
They will never have wisdom like you and i, they dont know what strength is because they dont understand there weaknesses.

besides. i dont look at humans like products, each quirk and difference makes you beautiful and better. different truly is better. i think its fascinating.
were not products made to look like the last one, we're flowers hoping to grow stronger and better than expected of us.

basically it doesnt matter what flower you are, you gotta be the best one you can be, thats what makes you beautiful.

ugh god i talk a lot, that was the most unorganized passage i've ever written. I'm sorry lol.

I am completely speechless on how much I am in love with this. You have no idea how much this really means to me! I volunteer at a camp for people with special needs and I am also a TA in a special education classroom and I find it very annoying and disrespectful when someone is looked and judged on their appearance or disability. A camper once told me, "I love being here at camp, because here nobody sees me as a wheelchair...they see me as a heart."

Thank you so much! <3

I might have missed this in the description, but is this your brother? nephew? haha, just wondering I'm just like that I guess lol. I love the concept of your picture. It sucks when people are against someone just because they have a different feature than them! having autism shouldn't make a person any different than one that has braces, or glasses, or i don't know...like, wears a shirt or something haha. But anyways, enough of my story I love your picture

this really represents my brother with autism.
they are humans exactly like us but they react differently to others, such as my brother Liam, he always talks to himself and he doesn't know how to aswnere the five w's, but we always know what he wants, he also has to eat gluten free.
with my brother, he always remembers his video games he plays and when we go somewhere else, he always says something that is based off of one of his games.
I am really proud of this picture and all of the autism kids out there <3

I instantly fell in love with this photo!

I am 19 years old, and I've known that I have had Asperger's syndrome, which is on the autism spectrum, since i was 3 years old. It has been a difficult way of life. but i strive to remain optimistic.

as for you in the photo, you are an amazing gift to the world. Did you know that autism is also a form of brilliance? they say that Einstein had Asperger's. ITS TRUE!

I would totally recommend the book "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime" for when you are older. or even for you to read! it is about a severely autistic 12 year old boy and the story is told literally through his thoughts and feelings, like a diary.

thank you for posting this. much love,

Lauren.
