It's been a hot minute since I actually updated it, but here's a concept/character sketch for my story "Adaptive Adoption" on Fiction Branches. She belongs to an eccentric alien race, the "miwi-miwi,"* which possess a large and highly adaptable brain for their size, but which don't have anything much instilled in it at birth. Rather, they absorb knowledge in pure brainwave form from other creatures by means of their ribbon-like tentacle "hair." On their homeworld this gives them (something of) a survival advantage, as they can adapt (sort of) to a wide variety of environments by copying the behavior patterns of more specialized creatures; off their homeworld, it makes them the only species in the galaxy whose natural state is "deep existential crisis," as when they absorb the brain patterns of a sapient creature, they end up copying and identifying as their target...(No points for guessing what sort of sapient being (s)he was mind-cloned from ;D)
* (In the local dialect, "monkey-see-monkey-do.")
(I freely admit tha the design here was a deliberate attempt to evoke Pokemon.)
