Description
A little more recently, I had the idea for a story or series based around a whole group of the critters, having been rounded up by an alien government and dumped on Earth as a "preserve" or something to that effect - with the protagonist being the one among them who was actually mind-cloned from a human being, haplessly trying to help the rest fit in with a human society that doesn't particularly want them around to begin with. Still like the concept, but the trouble was that, while in my head it was "District 9, the sitcom," every time I tried to sit down and work out the specifics it was just too damn close to being a knock-off of Valsalia 's "Out-Of-Placers," and I couldn't get past that. Maybe at some point down the road I'll figure it out; for now, it was fun to take the generalized species concept and try developing distinct characters with it.
