Description Entry for *Tangent-Valley 's "Draw Felix" contest. The comic the characters are from is only just getting started, but I already like Felix, because he/she's one of very few cat-girls that actually act like cats instead of kittens. Does Felix act aloof and above-it-all when confronted by people being strange? Even if Felix's own circumstances are no less bizarre? You bet she does. There is no more cat-like behavior than vainly and resentfully trying to maintain one's dignity (especially after an embarassment) - so here's some more of it!

It took me way too long to actually get this done; the problem with having a month in which to do something is that somehow that turns into a week or a few days while I'm not looking :/ I went with Flash partly because it's fast and I'm less likely to get distracted by nitty-gritty raster-drawing stuff, but also because I've been missing the look of my older drawn-in-Flash works...this is also the first piece I sketched on paper in a long time...

For laughing so much at Felix's antics, Thomas looks pretty goony herself. I didn't plan that, but it seems very appropriate and I like it.

And even without a magic bag of tricks, this Felix makes a far better character, story, and cat than the actual movie. [link]

Also ... she could totally get out of that yarn with no problem. I'm with Felix on this. Adorable? Yes. But she didn't get herself trapped so there's no reason to laugh at her for it. Kind of odd that she'd be leaping around in a short dress-shirt without any pants on underneath though. Unless she managed to get some shorts, or at least underwear.

On the other hand, the original Felix silent cartoons are excellent stuff - and in the public domain, to boot, so they're easy to find!

(As for her doing acrobatics with no pants? Such rationality deserts a cat when their hunter instincts are triggered; this is the source of the embarassment that causes them to try and reestablish their lost dignity. Sometimes you can tease them along with a toy and watch them struggle to feign disinterest even as they're increasingly caught up in the moment...)

.............You just mentioned things I myself never even noticed, but am going to pretend I had planned all along, just to seem in control of things. O___O

Well done, Sir!

Thanks Wasn't sure if they were intentional or subconscious, but they're good little nuances regardless.
