Out of insanity I etched the words last day
on the inside of my wrist in purple ink,
in perfect harmony with the blue of my veins.
It made sense at the time.

Pictures aren’t worth much
if you don’t remember why you took them.
No matter the amount of rationalism,
introverted smiles and broad grins always manage to leave a mark
of approvable contentedness
on everyone’s hearts. Nevertheless if the brain decides to argue.
And so one thousand grovels to two:
fabricated happiness.

It’s so ridiculous how everyone laments during
the last hours down these halls. Lacking a hint of legitimacy,
a teacher told me I would remember them perpetually,
until the day I die.
I found this especially ironic because I’d rather die
than to never achieve the capacity to dismiss
the thought of those dire doors shaded blue.

An individual might focus too hard
on the best ways to make memories that
that certain individual remembers nothing at all
but the thought of working hard to remember.
I’ll try my best to forget everything.

Final goodbyes sweep in between pairs of
twisted smiles as the warm salty water finally reaches my chin.
Poignant stares at one another’s freshly peeled backs seem to last forever.
Hugs that last five minutes are inexistent and wrong;
I never wanted to let go, but I managed.
