Due the cloning process being defective by nature, Ben's creation was achieved by altering elements of his genetical structure. Hence so, his appearence and his mind matches that of a younger Peter Parker.

His superhero moniker, the Scarlet Spider, was chosen by one of Kingpin's men and mole on the Daily Bugle, Ken Ellis.

As per his new identity, Fisk created it's name purposefully to anger Peter Parker, having based it on his beloved aunt and uncle. Though nowadays, Ben carries the name as a homage to them.

Most of Ben's adversaries during his time under the wing of Wilson Fisk were created by, well, Wilson Fisk, as an effort to better the Scarlet Spider's public image.

Aside from Ben, there are only 3 out of the 7 that are still alive, those being Kaine Parker (now going by Richard Fitzpatrick), Jessica Drew and the Black Tarantula. The other 4, those being the team of super-powered criminals known as the Slingers, were not as lucky.

Ben got his job at Horizon Labs after months of talking and serving Max Modell, as an employee of the Daily Grind.

After the whole Clone Saga fiasco, Kingpin was forced to sell the rights he had on the Scarlet Spider name (and brand). As a result, these were picked up by a movie production company and right now, a Scarlet Spider film has begun filiming (starring Ben's favorite "sister in law", Mary Jane Watson".

Due to the pregnancy of MJ, Ben has taken up the Spider-Man mantle so Peter can fully dedicate himself to the birth of his daughter.
