Description
I've seen the memorials to our country's heroes. In our nation's capital they grow like the daffodils.
They are on the street corners of the city
and metro tunnels at night.
They fought in wars past
and the past is where there they were left.
I've seen the memorials to our country's people.
They sit on the streets and ask for a dollar
but would be with eye contact and a smile.
These memorials aren't as well taken care of
as those of Washington and Lincoln and Jefferson
but they are not made of stone
and yet no one can look them in the face.
