That is an impressive result from such highly contrasting colours I can't imagine fiddling with them for so long in order to get such a beautiful composition.

True. Sometimes, the stuff has to be done. You know, for science

Well, if you're tackling colour, I may have just the thing for you! Or book. Look up Color and Light by James Gurney. He goes very in depth about the various aspects of color in paintings.
What I would suggest right away: Right now, you have two very bright colours (or three, if you count the green eyes). The setup of opposing color temperatures like you have here is very effective, but you may want to tone down one of them a bit. Or create some kind of imbalance between the two - both of them take up roughly the same space. Those are just suggestions for some more experimentation, though, because there are a lot of awesome paintings that use super bright colours in a very effective way. And you did a good job just as well in this painting. (Although I'm not a huge fan of that particular hue of blue, but that's another story )
You're certainly on the right track!

You used a cool color and warm color. I like both. So, using the cool color seems to be cool and probably it looks lonely but using the warm color looks positive and warm. The eyes are green so I feelΒ dreamlike a little.Β Β  Β
