Description Yeah, I don't have a more clever title for it.

One of my classes this semester is for Photoshop (yeah, I know, the same Photoshop I've been using for seven years... ^_^). And for our midterm project we chose from a list of surrealist artists, and the assignment was to make a composition in that same style.

Balthus was on the list, and I googled him and every other artist on the list. Seeing all the thumbnails I thought they all had a pin-up look to them, so I figured it would be a good match for me. So, he's the one I went with.

What I did NOT know-- until I started really researching, and, you know, looking at his paintings in a closer view than thumbnail-- was how YOUNG so many of his models were. And many of them are in poses and states of undress that would make me not want the cops looking at this computer!

>_<

So, whoopsy-doodles. Joke was on me there, I guess. But I still thought the style and settings and composition were a good fit. Just, when I made my own, I drew women who are young, yes, but legal dammit! ^_^

If you've never seen any of his paintings, it's like if a Renaissance painter were alive and painting back in the 1940s or so. And the face look like they're positioned a little wonky, for once I can legitimately say that's intentional, since his faces were always sort of looking in the wrong direction, and they all had these indifferent, half-stoned facial expressions, so I incorporated that as well.

All and all, considering it was a midterm-- a word that strikes terror in many students-- I had a pretty good time making this, especially the setting. I've been kinda wanting to do an old-timey livingroom like that for awhile. ^_^

so, what's their midterm project? looking up each others' skirts? :bwahaha: sorry, but it does look like they're peeking under each other's skirts! (hmmm, an idea for a variation?) don't know anything about the guy you were using as an example, or his work, but these girls are so damned sexy and cute at the same time!

A good illustration so far. Yeah, it's sad there's no underwear involved.

Well, no, I think my instructor would frown upon that. ^_^ Actually, maybe not, it'd be true to Balthus' work.

At any rate, I wanted something more conservative. But Valentine's Day is coming up, in fact, it kinda snuck up on me, so I'll probably feature something lacy, silky, and erotic for that. ^_^

Oh, whoops, definitely you can't do that while you're having class project.

Must have been reading the description a little too fast. Sorry about that.
