Description
Time for some warming up yet again.I got into black&white drawing and thought drawing 2B from Nier: Automata. I haven't played the game, but she looks quite pretty. I also know that she has quite ample booty, but forgive for not drawing her from a peculiar viewing angle. I'm still rusty, so it's better to get warmed up before going for something like that. This was challenging enough.
I like using black, it's perfect for hiding mistak... I mean, simplifying details and adding depth.
For some reason my recent black&white drawings seem washed out, but look fine when in full size. I have seen this happening two times now, I wonder why dA behaves like that

Yep, same observation here. Looks washed out until I zoom in. Looks great zoomed in, especially after seeing it washed out.

2B's design is a really good one and its great seeing it in your style!Β
I also haven't played the game yet haha... I did buy it though! Want to tackle it sometime soon.Β
I'm a fan of how the legs came out, and how they parallel the sword. the length of both gives a feeling of elegance in my eyes.
Excellent work, even if it was just a warm up Β

Indeed.
I'm also fascinated by the legs, I normally fail to draw them long. This perspective also gives me headache because of the slight straddle posing of the legs. The other leg always feels too short in comparison to the other leg or like being in wrong orientation. I have no idea how I get it done in the end.

I can see what you are talking about. I think the sword being parallel to the legs helps the perception of the overall image, plus the clothing obscuring part of the leg where it connects to the torso.
At least, that's what I believe to be the secret ingredients here. Then again, maybe your mind and hand automatically work magic haha with the amount of time you've had with the craft, it would make sense if your intuition is just taking over.

PLAY. THE. GAME.
Oh my god.Β
(and then do pinup art based on any of the numerous, brilliant little jokes and asides in it and elevate yourself to the stars far above the teeming unwashed masses of artists who never played it but gravitated anyway to a butt)Β
edit: also because it is A REALLY REALLY GOOD GAME.

I really like the perspective on this one. It makes me feel as if the figure is actually placed on top of my desk. Good job.

For the fisrt time, also on my PC this drawing looks washed out when not in full size. At the point I was wondering it was a flash file.

idk either but that's not just a DA thing, from what i've seen that always happens when an image gets compressed, but usually not to that degree...have you tried selecting a smaller size when uploading?
ok I'm really curious about this now, because the thumbnail is fully contrasted!

Yeah, the thumbnail is fine. I also tried changing the upload size but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
Funny thing is that black&white manga test page I uploaded before this one is fully contrasted. I have had this problem with two drawings and both of them have transparent background, it may have something to do with it. PNG files in general have worked just fine and I haven't had any issues until recently. I haven't tested how colored drawings with transparent background behave.

that's crazy, seeing your post made me go back and check some photos I've uploaded,Β
and unless it is the transparency it doesn't seem to affect color images.

You're right, for some stupid reason, the contrast goes way down when this pic isn't full-sized; I wonder why that is as well...
