The WW .22LR is indeed the inspiration for the Rockette R9 9mm. It would have to be slightly larger, about 10%, to *better* accommodate the larger calibre—confirmed by OlyArms during a correspondence about feasibility of marketing it for .32/.38/380/9mm

FYI, it has been my favorite handgun design since I first had a toy marketed as the Zebra II (eventually dropping the 2 once the Zebra fell out of production). It was years before I found out the toy was based on a real weapon.  As toys, the WW has seen incarnations as a soft-pellet shooter, a transparent plastic water pistol, and a combined suction-dart/water-pistol. I have all versions as well as the Original Whitney and Newer Olympic Arms.
