Whilst I never read them, I am familiar with the background. Only if a true G.I. Joe enthusiast wrote a origin story for a feature film.

But did you know that before they decided to introduce Serpentor, Larry Hama's initial idea was to introduce a character who was a sort of Karl Marx/Friedrich Nietszche hybrid, and whose ideas influenced Cobra Commander to set up his COBRA organization?

I wanted to come up with such a character, and I call him Abram Surd.

Gawd, how did I forget him?! And they had a Rocky Balboa action figure in the works, but it got aborted.

I loathed Serpentor on the Sunbow series, and wished for the Armored Cobra Commander to make his acquaintance, so he could kill him (the comic version, I will admit, is better).

Serpentor...he's a bitch, good hand to hand fighter but a crappy leader. Commander was and still is the best leader. (OMG i hate J.G.L. as CC in the 1st GIJoe movie...Damn that dude knows how to mess up a movie.)

I guess he was alright in the comics, but I hated him on the Sunbow series (same voice actor who did Rodimus Prime's voice on TF, season three). I decided to make up my own character on the one that Larry Hama wanted to write a mini series about, before Hasbro came up with Serpentor.

no kidding, i would have loved to see where they would have taken the show had sunbow not pulled the plug, we could have seen destro turn on cobra and seen overlord too.

I think there was a planned fourth where Cobra Commander, with the help of the Crimson Twins, form COIL. much to my disappointment when the movie came out on TV, I remembered how I so wanted to see the battle armored Cobra Commander; instead, they turned him into a snake.

I always pictured him to be a ruthless s.o.b., like on "G.I. JOE: Resolute". As for Duke getting slain, well, like Larry Hama, I didn't particularly cared for him. He had to have been the Morty Sue of G.I. Joe; Snake-Eyes all the way.

i liked duke way more than gen. hawk, i dont like the fact that falcon was orginally hawks son and going to take over gi joe, it was better to have him as duke's kid brother.

I'm not keen on these kind of relationship stories, but the best one I would argue is the Cobra Commander's son, Billy, who tried to assassinate him at a COBRA rally in Springfield.

On a random note, I'm working on an OC of my own based on Hama's aborted character. He's a political theoretician, and outcast philosopher along the lines of the Nietzsche/Lovecraft mold, whom influenced Cobra Commander to form his COBRA organization.

I call him Abram Surd.
