Description Here is a sampling of taxa found in the Ballagan Formation of Scotland. Fossils there are rather incomplete but help fill the so-called Romer's gap in tetrapod evolution. The Early Mississippian (Tournaisian) age Ballagan Formation contains remains of various arthropods (such as Albalimulus, an early horseshoe crab, several species of myriapods including Woodesmus, Eurypterids, Ostracods, ...), lungfishes (such as Ctenodus and the relatively large Limanichthys (reconstruction based on the related Pentlandia)) and a number of early tetrapods including Koilops, known from a partial skull. Pederpes is from the later part of the Tournaisian, while the other taxa represented here are from the Early Tournaisian.
