Description Branchiosaurus sp., small temnospondyl from the late Pennsylvanian to the Early Permian, that displays evidence of gills. The genus might actually not be valid and the fossils be larval stages of large temnospondyl such as Eryops.

So kinda like axlotls and salamanders then?

Still, this would look awesome in my fish tank. By itself, with nothing but food fish. Great job on the little feathery gills.

At the larval stage yes, but as an adult it won't fit in your tank ...:

Hm, will need a bigger tank then. Or a river

It'd probabley eat all the fish...I remember how many of these ancient amphibians were carnivorous.

Pond would be easier to manage, though I have a eiver just down the road. May not be quite deep enough though.

If Branchiosaurus does turn out to be invalid, wouldn't that invalidate the entire taxon of Branchiosaurida?

probably yes...

Either that, or we wind up suffering through another taxon named after an invalid name...

Yeah *sigh*!

And what's worse, all of the good names are taken, AND invalidated.
