I got inspired to add this into my huge headcanoniverse when I read that the creator of Shadow said he could see Shadow going into a deep sleep [or getting captured imo] and sleeping for years n years only to be awaken at a time of need by someone - possibly someone resembling Maria.
You can make up what it being said here, I didn't really think/remember to add text

So I doodled this lmao. My twist is, after he settled down with his wife + Silver being born, he get's captured by G.U.N as he's classed as "dangerous" and get's put in stasis. His last memory is his wife and 5 yr old Silver reaching out to him. 4000 years pass and he get's awoken by a blonde hedgehog that looks eerily similar to Maria. She infiltrated a run-down and near destruction G.U.N vault that was suspect to be keeping Shadow. Her squad dress her up in something similar to Maria to make sure he's not hostile after being awoken. She enter's the vault and find a big black room that looks brand new, she see's Shadow towards the back of it, all alone in limbo. She tried to touch it but decides not to. Instead she calls his name and it actually works.

-The name of the girl is not thought of yet
-My other projects are alive 4000 years later and were the ones who mentioned Shadow
- Sonic and the main cast are dead, besides Silver who ages very very slowly so is looking to be in his 40's at this point
- She's not Maria and isn't related to anyone or anything regarding her/Shadow/ARK/Projects - her superiors just dressed her up like Maria for the sake of Shadow waking up docile
