Description
A unfortunate wizard is left helpess in the claws of a rather irate black dragon when he forgets to cast his ward spells before summoning it.Acrylic on canvas-paper, slightly smaller than A3

How do you achieve that brilliant glow effect? I'd like to learn how, as I'm not very good with anything other than digital art.

Hmm, it's a bit difficult to descibe... you have to sort of imagine where would get the highlight and paint that, brighter the closer it is to the light-source.
For the glow of the light I picked a deep purple, a mauve and white paint and layered them, working from the darkest to the lightest. I started with the deep purple, thinned the paint a lot in order to blend it into the background then gradually thinkened the paint as I wanted it to be brighter nearer the origin of the glow. I then did the same with the mauve, then again with the white to finish with.
