This might be shorter than what I had previously written, but Kirkman did that purposefully because he wanted to show what its' like for two people who aren't close having to work together. Beth and Daryl are going through the same emotions right now. Daryl didn't have a chance to react to Carol's banishment. Beth didn't have a chance to mourn her father, Hershel. They both have had a chance to express themselves. The whole funeral thing was about Daryl and Beth finally being able to mourn Hershel/the group's death and to accept it. Beth is either going to die or get a new boyfriend. lol. I don't know which though. I do feel they paired Beth up with Daryl, because she is one of the more expendable characters on the show. I say that, because she's not in the comic books. I don't believe she is. Daryl is not in the comic books either, so it would make sense that it would be easier to pair them up together. Plus, Daryl is a man-child and she's a teenager, so it makes sense putting them together. Aside from that, I think they did it to stay in line with the theme about the children that Gimple said he is going for this season. Beth is still very much a child.Β
I completely agree with you! Everything that has happened to Daryl is great. It's forcing him to open up more and to confront his issues with his past and himself. I think Carol is the only one who brings out who Daryl truly is a lot of the time, because she allows him to be himself. Beth was in mourning so she tried to force an emotional response out of him, so that she could have emotional support from him over her father. But, the problem is you can't force Daryl out of his comfort zone. That's why we got that violent, horrible reaction from him with Beth. Carol knows not to force things with him. Absence makes the heart grow fonder they say. Daryl is realizes how much Carol means to him. Carol is like you said waiting for him to take the next step to let her know that he's ready to move their relationship to the next level.Β
I think the jade stone was an indicator that he was going to tell Carol he loved her, so I think he might have taken it to the next level. But, it might have taken him a REALLY long time to do that. I don't think they would have gotten very far in that next level, you know? I think it will be perfect to see them together. I know that Daryl is going to have another conversation with Rick about Carol's banishment. He's probably going to have a similar speech to Merle not being allowed into the group like, "No Carol. No me."Β
There is a noticeably hush-hush thing going on AND I think it was a BIG HINT about Caryl when they have a well-known shipper, Yvette, on the show with Melissa!!!! I seriously think they were dropping a hint or something to the viewers there. I completely agree. They want everyone to lose hope. I don't know if we're going to get the Caryl moments we want with the finale, but if we don't we will definitely get them and much more in season 5. I can't wait for Daryl (Beast) to be reunited with his Pookie (Belle). I keep picturing the reunion scene from Beauty & the Beast. lol.
It would be very anti-climactic and Daryl and Carol are the most popular characters. I can't imagine them not giving us something in the finale. It would be the worst writing if they did that. He would be forever loved if he did that. Gimple is a big fangirl over Carol, she's his favorite character. I know it won't happen, but Carol and Daryl should have sex right in front of Rick just to piss him off. Then Carol looks at him and gives him the finger and smiles.
