My bi-annual painting of Shiina Ringo, since it seems like I paint her a lot. For practice, mostly!I used one of her concert photos for reference, but because my printer sucked, I had to make a lot of it up.
Shit, I forgot her mole!

You are such a master at oil! OH GOD! I don't know who that is, but she's really beautiful, and anyone would be lucky to be rendered in such a gorgeous way!! FFFF
Those colors are so great, very soothing. Which works well with that expression.

Have I not said something about this? D: lovely. The face looks so delicately painted there... especially her lips, and the way the light catches on her skin....
Do you use tons of layers of underpainting like they did in the old days or is it just the basic layer here?

I didn't underpaint at all. I can't really work on it for too long because it turns waaayy too overworked. I guess my style is pretty spontaneous, mostly because I haven't really grasped how to use oils properly yet. :/

But it looks so luminous! Like it would have taken layers to get it right.
Aaanyway "use properly" is only a guideline in modern art. According to your elders you should be throwing acrylics on floor-scattered canvases while binge-drinking. :/

Idk, I guess I still need to properly learn how oil behaves and all that. I can't say I'm great at it, or even satisfactory. Practice, practice.

Wasn't it like a whole movement? And didn't they like, paint great big squares and colour blocks that expressed the philosophy of mankind for 2 decades prior to that? SOOoo over art history.
