yeah...fay and i participated in a chinese new year contest called "lunar new year across asia"
the year of the rat approaches tomorrow februrary 7, 2008 so we are posting this to celebrate
it was fun doing it [even though we finished in around 2-3 days]
well this is my interpretation of chinese new year:
giant cartoon-ish mouse because it is the year of the rat
the small animals are the other eleven animals of the chinese zodiac

my entry is actually an old chinese folklore
the tale of how the zodiac order came to be
you see, it was the jade emperor's decision to hold a banquet
the cat didn't quite get the message and decided to ask his friend the rat fot the date and time
but the rat gave him the wrong date
thr rat went happily to the banquet
he was the first there and was he in for a suprise!
when the first twelve animals finally arrived
the emperor slowing announce his plan to keep time
this banquet was actually a contest to compete for a slot in the zodiac
and they were that twelve
the orange lump in the clouds is the cat that didnt participate in the race because he...slept through it
[yes there are other forms of the story, but this one, i like.
there was one about the race and how the rat had gotten a ride on the ox and manged to win the race and to take forst in the zodiac placement]

oh the chinese kanji is the chinese kanji meaning luck and happiness
