I just set up my collection of Pokemon plush in my new house...but...I think I need to expand it to more than just this shelf because I had to take out all of my doubles AND STILL all of these plush are ready to pop out from all the squishy tension. xDAnyway, these are all of the Pokemon plush I have collected over the course of the 17 years in which Pokemon has been a thing.
Excluded are my bootlegs* (each of these is 100% legitimate, I DON'T BUY FROM EBAY/AMAZON, my bootlegs are mostly vintage and from before official plush were being made) and my doubles.
*Actually the Groudon may be bootleg now that I look at the photo since I got him from a thrift store and I don't know his origins.
NONE OF THEM ARE FOR SALE, NOT EVEN MY DOUBLES, SO PLEASE DO NOT ASK.
(I think pictures like this are supposed to go in scraps but no one watches my scraps so I'll scrap it later because I am an attention whore and I want people to see my beauties.)

I got some of them from Nintendo World in NYC, and some are from crane machines. One is a REALLY BIG amusement park prize that I cut open, removed the crappy styrofoam stuffing from, and then refilled it with soft stuff. xD
I have found a few of the crane machine/amusement park ones at flea markets and garage sales - give those a look sometime, you'd be surprised what you can find! (...but also be cautious - China is sneaky, and unfortunately, there are bootlegs everywhere now). -_-

Oh, I have like 3 pokemon plushies, a Turtwig that I won at a school fair, a Throh that I found in a flea marked (xD I go to these mostly every week for treasure hunting, and when I'm lucky, I definitely find great and rare things for a really cheap price!) and a Shaymin that an uncle got me from japan some years ago! The other pokemon stuff I have are hard plastic figures like Reshiram, Dialga, and the like, as of now, I'm looking to find Yveltal. ._. Oh, yeah, the bootlegs are everywhere, I remember that to happen a lot with Pikachu, but I always try to check mainly the tags and the quality, and even, if they are bootlegs but they look somewhat nice and are cheap, I would take them. xD

I just found some Pokemon plush there this weekend! But two of them are definitely bootleg. xD

xD Definitely they are! And yup, it is better to go not expecting anything because that's when stuff starts to appear. =3= And also...wake up early to go to these, because it is the time where there is more things to find!

Usually, if a plush has Japanese on the label and you found it outside of Japan, it's bootleg. xD There are...MILLIONS of them out there, thanks to China and ebay (like so! -->Β www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Mario-5β¦ ).
But what I do like about finding a bootleg is, that means you can use and abuse it, and not feel bad because in the end, it's not going to be a "collector's item"! So bootlegs have their place...sometimes. xD

=3= Aww...well, I got it around the price its says, and it was a little damaged. But it's Mario related stuff anyway! I got one case where I found a plushie of King Ghidorah from the classic Godzilla to just 5 mexican pesos, like, not even half a dolar, and when it looked it up on google, it appeared to be a japan exclusive, and it looked really good!
xD You are right about that! But, if they still look kind of decent, I would try to keep it in the best way possible! ._. Because there are some that SCREAM bootleg from miles away...

What's a bootleg plush? o:

Well, it can be kind of a long story (I know too much about it, since I'm in the plush industry), but to keep it short, China produces a lot of unauthorized plush of licensed characters using either "borrowed" patterns (identical to the official ones they produce under license), or entirely new ones. They tend to use lower-quality materials, but in the end, most people can't tell the difference just from looking at them (unless it's brutally obvious, as it can be sometimes, haha). In some cases, they even create duplicate hang-tags to the official stuff, which can make it really hard to tell if you've got a fake or a real plush (but I'm learning there are groups online who are VERY GOOD at sniffing out fakes among the real ones!)
You won't find these bootlegs in places like Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us, or (for the most part) Hot Topic, though. The bootlegs are all over the internet. The internet is NOT a good place to buy Japanese plush (or, let's face it, Japanese merchandise in general), unless you know what you're doing.
80% of what is on eBay is fake.

Look pretty legit, don't they? xD But they sure as hell ain't.
Pretty much, if it's shipping from China? It's fake.
And if you just want to buy bootlegs because they're cute and cheap? Have at it! I hold nothing against anyone buying bootlegs intentionally.
But I am kind of bummed that most people don't realize they're bootleg.
That's sad for a few reasons. One being they think they have a real item for their collection, but they don't. But the more harmful one being that I CONSTANTLY see bootlegged items being re-sold on here for the "official" prices, and I feel very bad for the people who buy the re-sold item.
I never want to barge in and shout, "THAT IS BOOTLEG DO NOT BUY IT FOR THAT PRICE", because it seems rude, but at the same time it kills me that I have to let it happen. xD
But anyway, if you want to avoid bootlegs, it's kind of easy.
-Never buy licensed goods directly from China. NEVER.
-Be cautious of what you buy online - try to buy directly from the manufacturer or a legitimate seller (Wal-Mart, etc). Even Amazon.com has bootlegs listed by third-party sellers.
-Never buy shit at Anime Conventions unless the licensor or a trusted company is the one there selling the item. (Every con I've been to, despite having a "no bootleg" rule, is just filled to the rafters with fake shit from China, and people pay mad money for it. It's really depressing to me.)
-If the price is too good to be true, assume it's bootleg, unless you know what you're looking for.
If you want bootlegs because you don't plan on re-selling them and just want a cheap item that looks like something you like, by all means, have fun! I have some bootleg Kingdom Hearts plush simply because there is no official plush of Sora, Roxas, Axel, etc.Β But know the difference, is all I beg from people. xD
