Description
Wreck-it Ralph pupper doofing hurriedly towards...pie? His buddy Vanellope? I'm not sure, but I hope he gets there without tripping over his own paws. D;***
So, on twitter, I posted a very jumpy "accidental" animation that came about when I gif'd three doodles I did together:Β twitter.com/NyaasuNekoban/statβ¦
...and people seemed to really like it! It was suggested that I add more frames, but I didn't think that would be possible, since I do all my sketching traditionally (I can't sketch well on a computer and I doubt I'll ever be able to...), until another friend suggested a USB-powered lightbox. I got one, and gave it a shot turning that dumb gif into a rough animation.
I...haven't animated anything in almost 18 years, and what I did then wasn't even...it was dumb. So I'm counting this as my first time actually animating anything. I have...a SHIT TON to learn, I really only know about animation in theory, but, I feel like I have potential. So I will hopefully mess around more with animation a bit in the future. I feel like I learned a lot about drawing while I did this, like, I "leveled up" faster than ever before? So yeah, me doing more things like this is a very good idea. I very desperately need to improve my art, and this will hopefully help.
Anyway, enjoy!!!
Oh and if anyone's curious how I did this, it's...quite bootlegged. The drawings are all on paper, with minor edits made in Photoshop to help the flow, and then it's gif'd together in a very old version of Photoshop that still had the "timeline" feature. This is legit the only way I know how to gif together drawings. If anyone else has any suggestions I am open for that! (please? The Photoshop I was using murdered all of my frames constantly, it was all I could do to keep from screaming.)

Woah, this is really neat! Especially since it's technically your first try at it, it's very impressive! Do you plan on doing more? Because this is super fun to see <3

I should! Because I learned a lot about just drawing in general while doing this, which is something I need (I need to get better desperately! aaaaaaa). Now that I've invested in a lightbox, I really hope I put it to good use! D; I don't know how often I can do something like this, but I'm going to try to do even tiny things, just for practice, as a part of my regular "art" routine.
My current art routine involves warm-up sketches copying art books for about...idk, 5 mins? Then about 15 minutes of gesture study via www.posemaniacs.com . Maybe I'll add like...a quick half hour of animating...anything, a tail, a nose, whatever, just to play around, and every once in a while have a finished...something, to show for it. D;

That might be neat! I can imagine it teaches a lot of things still images might not, because if you have to think about how to move into the next frame, you analyze the motion in a picture much differently. So that's neat! I hope it helps you grow more and faster, and I hope we get to see more cute doggos as a result :3

Wheeeeeee this is awesome to see an animation from you!
He looks perfect as a dog
MyΒ only suggestion would be making at least 1 frame difference between front legs iteration as they are right now perfectly symmetrical, and you would rather use to see how one paw usually is moving ahead of the other :3 Also it is kind of one of the things you would want to avoid - anything symmetrical at all in animation :3
Sorry if I seem annoying with this, you can just forget what I said
Because other than that its awesome and very fun animation! And I'm very happy to see you making some!

Also, just so you know, you're totally not annoying!! Because you're absolutely right!!
I hadn't set up proper "key frames" for this project, it was never supposed to actually be animated. xD But I do know that when a real dog runs, his front feet hit one right after the other! So next time, I will set that up the right way from the start, and hopefully do better.

YES THAT IS THE #1 THING BOTHERING ME ABOUT THIS! and when I was doing that part, I initially was going to do it the "right" way, but then my brain got confused and I convinced myself I was wrong, and since I've never done this before, I wasn't sure what my brain was trying to tell me with the front feet, and then I only realized after I uploaded it that my brain was right the first time, I just didn't know how to pull it off, and now I'm unsure how to fix it without putting too much effort into this "accidental" project (since it's all on paper!) Definitely going to go with my instincts next time! And I'm glad my instincts were right! π

I'm loving the fact that you can actually tell it's him!
I congratulate you on being able to keep his main features and overall charm ;u; the things that make him Ralph

Thank you!!!! That's become very important to me!! I used to focus more on what a breedΒ would look like, and that ended up with nice cartoon drawings of dogs, but, as my one friend always liked to put it, they just looked like "dogs in wigs". xD Now, I'm trying to get the character design more than the breed, and I'm glad it shows, and that you like it!!

Thank you!! I don't think it's so much perspective as...Ralph's hands are massive and I didn't know how to turn those into running paws?! But I think it does look nice, whatever I did do. xD

Even in dog form, he looks like a combination of Dan Aykroyd and Donkey Kong.

I will never, ever forget you said this, it will forever haunt me like a strange melody on the night wind.
Also, curious, do you think his actual appearance in the Disney films fits that description, too? Or, is it only when I draw him? x3

Oh, even in the source material.
...Man, the WiR crew as Ghostbusters, that would be something to see.
