definitely think this background should be really light
If it was dark then you'd lose attention from her face.. this picture is supposed to be like.. you see it and the first place you look is her cute soft face and then you move your eyes around the picture to see all the detail
If the background was darker then the first part you'd see is the socks which then distract from the whole piece
