The background was actually very simple to do. I think I can even explain in steps c:
1. Grey background (bucket) 
2. Pick a darker shadde of grey, airbrush a bit above the feet 
3. New layer > set it on multiply > choose a purple shade + cloudy looking brush > just drop some brushstrokes down
4. Lower the opacity of that layer and merge the two together.
And that's it! n.n  I use Paint Tool Sai btw.

Awesome thanks for the guide! I have been using Photoshop but maybe I will have to pick up PTS, I have heard a lot of good things about it.

I absolutely love PTS. It's got everything you need to be able to draw and it's free. So yeah, try it out!
