I had been meaning to watch Man on Steel ever since I wrote Lasper - A Light Romance . I finally got the chance this weekend. I remember the first time I watched it. I loved the fight sequences! I thought we finally got a fight worthy of Superman. When he punches someone (or gets punched), they go flying for miles and right through buildings (What collateral damage?)

Of course, the other scenes I loved was him flying. He's going through that sound barrier almost as effortlessly as he goes through concrete

I had been meaning to recreate the effect and I thought I'd get VG to do the same

Now, in the VictoryVerse, only a handful of characters are capable of flight and it's never a power by itself, but the result of the way in which the character uses his / her basic power. In the case of Victory Girl, whose power is telekinesis, she 'flies' by using her TK to push against the ground or other objects of significant mass. To get an idea of this works, I visualise it as the Hovercrafts from the Matrix. This means she's not flying straight up into the clouds (or the upper atmosphere for that matter), but it also means she's very manoeuvrable within a city.

Her flight range as I estimate it, is mostly good for movement within the city, but not for long distance intercity, cross country or inter-continental travel. For that, she has to use E-Division resources or book a flight.

The altitude she can cruise at again varies. Within the city, she can go as high as the buildings around her and some more if she uses them to build up speed and launch herself. In open spaces, she can cruise at around 30-40 feet.

I haven't really figured a top speed for her. I'm terrible with speed. I'm a slow ass rider and I'm writing a character that loves speed. I figure she's faster than the average car on an open road but not so fast that she's tearing up the neighbourhood in her wake. What does that translate to in a number? Well, if you are a speed expert, do let me know!

On to more technical notes, this was supposed to be a test render to see how the effects came together, except about an hour into the render, I noticed my monitor had yellow-shifted.

At first I thought I was imagining it, but then after a while, it was still there. I cancelled and saved the render and then restarted the PC, and the yellow shift was still there. A moment of mild panic later, I turned off old faithful and said a prayer to the Gods of PCs.

See, it's the middle of summer here and it's so hot that my default state is sweating. My normally well-ventilated PC is stuck in a deadzone when it comes to air circulation so I was just hoping I didn't push the monitor or the graphics card to the brink.

The next day, the colour's back to normal (or least it seems normal. I can't tell with certainty) but I'm going to keep off iray for a while.
