Description FULL VIEW OR DIE

"It didn't used to be this way, Smithers. No, it didn't used to be this way at all."

A miserable old vampire sits on the step in front of his throne, nostalgic for the days when he was sexy because he drank blood and stayed up all night, not because of his bunny-ears.

it's crazy! I look into your gallery and the small pictures on the view don't do your art justice. I full view them when I open them up and I'm even more blown away!
This one in particular is wonderful. Expect me to purchase a print from you in the soon future.

every detail of this piece is so gracefully executed. the time it must have taken...but what a lovely outcome.

the floor is absolutely perfect. i also rather enjoy the egyptian imagery this sort of echoes-- the vampire looks a bit like anubus to me

you make very obvious just how patient you are, and it pays off

I don't normally comment on strangers art because I'm way shy, but I came across this randomly and I had to. The wings are the most amazing thing I have ever seen, and the colors are astounding.

You have to offer a print for that. Unfortunately, exporting print-sized images on my slow old computer is a royal pain in the posterior. But I'm getting a new computer, so I'll be offering prints of just about everything soon.

whaaaa.. man.. this is devotion as well as that dragonfly thingie.. great art
a word of advice.. in future projects when drawing this complex try to detail stuff (eg wings) in separate ai files and afterwards you may import them into one big one.. that's an idea

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nyctopterus In reply to achirea [2004-02-07 07:44:14 +0000 UTC]

I did. Not the wings - Illustrator actually deals with lot of little lines reasonably well - I had the curtain and the floor in separate files - but when it comes to pasting them in things always need work to get them to look right, and it's my screwing around with transparency to get the light just right that it hates.

In outline mode it was still fairly usable, but most of the frustration comes from making the millions small adjustments to colours and transparent objects that I do towards the end, when I need to see the entire thing properly.

The Advanced, Miserable Vampire.. What an excellent name for this.
The detail of this is just superb, I truly value every single minute you put into this.. And what a masterpiece all that hard work produced!
The first allusion that I saw in this picture was Egyptian mythology; the head of that vampire is very much like that of Anubis, the designs on the joints in those mechanical wings are strongly Egyptian, and the ibis-head-shaped adornments on the throne he's sitting in remind me of Egypt in general, but also of Thoth, the god of knowledge. In fact, this whole colour scheme reminds me of Egypt! Bronze, gold and semi-darkness. That's the key.
The vampire's clothes, very richy adroned (he was probably very rich), also remind me of Egyptian aristocracy. And the way they flow and settle on the ground is really wonderufl, as though they were made of something extremely thin and soft like silk. Perhaps he was an Egyptian demi-god/vampire!
Ahem; and then behind the throne, on the walls, this Egypt-linked design changes and becomes more reminiscent of something likely to be seen in India. The single 'stripe' of images looks like a sort of artsy mural, and the walls all around (a very pleasant shade of red by the way) have such beautiful subtle designs in them.

Now once again you have shown amazing skill in creating a hybrid between org anic and mechanic; although all these amazingly detailed designs remind me of ancient Egypt, the wings undoubtedly are a link to more recent, or even more distant times (future-wise). They seem to be outlined with metal, apart from the amazing metallic 'muscles' holding the wings in place, and this definately brings out the fabric or texture that the wings themselves are fashioned out of. On their own they might look very fragile and sensitive, but outlined with such a strong streak of golden metal, and streaked throughout with the same metallic lines as it is, this material appears to be some futuristic chemically bonded substance, both beautiful and tough. (Whoo look at me go)

The lighting is another thing which blows my mind, and that must have been one of the things that took you the longest to do; they are so utterly realistic and all-encompassing, and they along with the reflections on the wings and on parts of the throne make it seem like the light is coming from somewhere above.

This is absolutely stunning.. Godly work, man, inspired and godly.

Wow... just like, wow. Lots and lots of detail, and very nice. Some times when people use detail they over do it, in your case, you didn't. That's a good thing.
Cute bunny ears too ness. hehehe

In the "window" menu choose "document info" . There's a whole bunch of options in the menu that drops down from the little arrow on the top right of the palette, choose "objects" (making sure that "selection only" is off) and then " save", and it will save a text file with the info in it.

I'm not surprised no one seems to have discovered it.

Wow, I had no idea you could do such things with vector (I have no idea how it works, either, though). But you don't have to know how to make vector to appreciate it. This is amazing. I love it, the colors, the subject, the detail, the title. My favourite thing of all, though is the wings. Absolutely stunning.

Well, most of the detailing isn't anything tricky, just lines (I do tricky stuff with lighting and shading mostly). All that's required is a lot of hard work.
