Yeah, as far as i remember I just used the default hard round paintbrush for the drawing. There's a couple of watercolour brushes that I used to enhance the background texture. ^^

And yeah, it is very tempting to go wild with brushes, and I mean, it isn't bad to use them all, but maybe just use them all to see what they all do, and what different brush settings might achieve. After that, just picking maybe one or two special brushes, for targeted areas in a painting, really works. Too much, and everything gets lost in too much texture, or it looks like the fancy brushes were used to cover up a slightly weak area in the painting. I look at them like I look at make-up: it should emphasise, not drown, the underlying features.

Thanks! - The background is a scanned piece of very old, unused paper... 500 year old paper, in fact. From one of Leonardo's notebooks. lol
