Katara's nostrils flare when she's pissed. *giggle*More study work on drawing Katara in Avatar style for that little "secret project" I mentioned. I'm going to be seeing Katara's face in my dreams now. ...Awesome!
I've been working on this pretty much off and on all night (the past 7 hours) while watching Avatar on MA NEW TEEVEE. BUAHAHAHA. My old television was so old/ghetto it wouldn't even play DVDs (but it would play PS3 games, wat teh fuck?). I CAN WATCH AVATAR ON A TELEVISION SET NOW AND IT IS GOOD.
I don't know how accurate these are, but at least I've improved on my speed if not my precision. The first sketch took me no less than 25 minutes; the last took me a little over 5. :3 Yeyah!
God, I love this character so freaking much.

They do. >_> Early on in the series they had very similar facial structures. It wasn't until later that Sokka started getting the squarer jaw and her features started to become rounder, etc. Not sure if this was intentional, or just natural style development. XD
And I do still adore her (and the series, as it was), I'm just not a raving, foaming maniac like I used to be. X3 I was pretty far gone for awhile there.

Well, I'm sure there are a few who are glad to have you back, and yet others who are sad to see you go. Gone is sometimes a place that we all should be for a while before coming back to everything else.
I agree that they did start looking a bit older as the series went on, that part as least was probably intentional. I've always rather liked the show. It was very cute and had good morals. Anyways, I'll stop taking up time. I'm sure you have much more amazing things to get around to.

Best thing I learned was to keep it simple. The Avatar art style is very basic, the shapes are very geometric, and the facial features are very exaggerated to allow for very expressive features. You can basically block in any of their faces in about five basic shapes before filling in any detail; and don't be afraid to exaggerate! xD

I know this is rather old, but may I ask what technique you used to get the expressions? What did you reference (screenshots, chart, character notes, whatever)? I'd be interested in trying something similar to practice and you're spot on.

What in particular about it, the fact that she looks like a bee went up her butt, it's badly drawn, or that it's shaded in? XD If it's the latter, I tried to play with some lighting effects, but you can't really see it on this compilation (I lightened the shading layer for the sake of cleanliness).
