Description Let's see if this uploads. I honestly have no idea how these work. You may have to click "Download" to view the animation?

Please be kind; I've never tried this before, and I don't have an animation program.

Unfortunately this is the max size that Photoshop will allow me to animate, so I had to cut out almost 1/3 of the frames I actually had in there (I now have 40, where I had nearly 60), so it's pretty rough and choppy. To add insult to injury, I then had to cut its physical pixel size in half. Needless to say, I can't finish this or clean it up. T___T Someone give me an animation program.

Based loosely on the vajra pestles movements of taijiquan (I made a few changes to allow for the water). Was going to be Katara.

Drawn on Adobe Photoshop CS1, animated in Photoshop Elements 2.

That's super cool.
Regardless of it being somewhat "choppy", it's very.. fluid

You are officially my idol. For only 40 frames that was insanely smooth, and the movement really made sense. Excellent job!

I... didn't even know that one could animate in Photoshop. O__O How is this done!?

Haha, thankya. XD

And in some photoshop programs (apparently Elements 2 is one of them) when you chose "save for web" you can click a box labeled "animate," and it turns the layers into animation frames. It's extremely limited size-wise, though. e_e

I'm not really sure, but it might have been done by drawing them individually and putting them together in Imageready. I think thats usually how Photoshop animations are done.

That was very well done! I think you really did a good job with having the water 'realistically' follow the movements of the bender! Brilliant!!

Whoa jeez, that's frigging awesome. I'm most impressed by how well you keep the volumes consistent in it, though it's a shame you had to cute out so many frames. Could you make another version of it with all the frames using monkeyjam (free pencil test program you can search on google) then put it on youtube or something? Because this animation rocks and it's sad we can't see it as it was meant to be seen. Anyway, this rocks, so good job. Are you trained in animation btw?

I like this doodle so much (and I really want to make it longer; I have enough frame sketched out in skeleton-form to make it a few minutes long, honestly) that I might find a way to illegally download Flash and see if I can import it there, lengthen the sequence, and then clean it up. >> It might take me a little bit, though, since I have no idea how Flash works at all. XD

And no, I've never taken an animation class or anything; other than blinky icons, this is my first go at it. ><;;

You're very good at animation (better than me and I'm in training for it ) so I salute you. If you ever wanted, I think you could seriously make a career of it, because if this is only your first ever animation, then you've got some serious talent. The main thing that gets me about this animation is how fluid it is and how you don't really have any volume inconsistancies. It's very well done.

I need to pirate flash too, I've been really wanting to make a new icon, because this one is getting kinda boring for me and since I'm an animation student I should probably prove it on dA with some animation.

Flash is really, really easy. If you do get it, I can give you some basic tips if you want. I don't know everything yet, but I do know how to make basic animation and whatnot. Flash is fun.

Best way to relax. Watching or doing it. You kind of just loose yourself in it. I also have to admit it was fun to perform in front of Avatar fans at a con last year too. A Whole group of us. LOL.

O and heres a tip, I know photoshop kinda is short on the animation stuff, but if you can somehow idk make multiple files and put them together on a movie edit program you could have a longer animation.. (im guessing).
keep up the good work!

Woah o__o! Amazing job for your first time animating. Your proportions remained flawless the whole time, which is what usually fucks people up. Seriously, awesome

Lol enlarging heads is always my problem when I attempt to animate XD...it kinda looks like someone inflating a balloon XP.

Haha, apparently I share the same problem. XD Her head kept getting bigger, her hands kept getting smaller and her arms and torso kept getting skinnier. >_>

Are you kidding? This is incredible! I'm in absolute awe, I can only imagine how long this must have taken. You've got some real talent there.

And I didn't know photoshop elements could do animation. I have photoshop elements 3.0, where is the animation option?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nylak In reply to Waterbenderbunny [2009-01-11 23:01:12 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. XD

When you click "save for web," there's a box you can click labeled "animate." It turns the layers into animation frames, and the image is saved in .gif form. It's very limited size-wise, but it works great for animated icons and such.

Nylak In reply to morganagod [2009-01-11 12:48:40 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. XD

I started out with a weird "linebending stick person", but he pretty much looked like he was flopping around having a seizure while being attacked by a flying eel (especially since he had no hands, which are so integral to waterbending). So I started going through the frames and fleshing it out, got pissed at the anatomy issues, so I turned it oficially into Katara so I could cover problems with her baggy clothes. X3 Most of Mr. Sticky can still be seen underneath the sketchy Katara outlines. Then I added in the water-blobs on separate layers and merged em down against the Katara layers when I was done (or testing a series of frames).
